The Tar Heels had their long winning streak snapped by Duke and then lost again in the ACC Tournament to Pittsburgh.

The Tar Heels had their long winning streak snapped by Duke and then lost again in the ACC Tournament to Pittsburgh.
The Tigers finished the season right about where we expected, near the top of the new AAC. This is a team that can be dangerous at times but still too often seems to not live up to the assumed talent level.
Well the Cavs have done it. They have used their blue collar approach to climb to the top of the ACC mountain, besting perennial contenders like Duke and North Carolina as well as newcomers like Syracuse.
If you are looking for a good team that is thriving heading into the tournament look no further than Michigan State. The Spartans have been struggling with injuries for months but now fully healthy they look as good as any team in the East bracket.
The Bearcats have had a great season but I think it is fair to say they peaked a little too early.
The Hawkeyes got off to such a strong start they have to be surprised they are even in this position.
Yesterday I wrote that Mount St. Mary’s was the least deserving team in the tournament but I was probably wrong because that title belongs to Cal Poly. Even in winning the Big West they finished with only a 13-19 record and they were well under .500 in their league.
I think the East region has loads of possibilities. I am not seeing a lot of upsets in the first round but after that I think we could see many brackets torn up. In my estimation all 8 of the top seeds could wind up representing this region in the Final Four – I am not sure if that makes this one loaded or light.
The Wolfpack got here because they have demonstrated not just an ability to beat good teams, but to do so outside their home arena.
The Royals have been on an upward trend for the last 5 years and their biggest leap came last year when they won 14 more games than the year before.
I want to go on record again and say that I think it is shabby that automatic qualifiers have to play in these play in games…its just not fair. That aside the Great Danes are probably happy with their draw of MSMU, a team they beat in 2010 and 2011.
It seems like none of the top teams in the league are not playing all that well right now…including Oklahoma City. The Thunder will be on a back to back for this one playing Dallas at home before hopping a flight up to the Windy City to play the Bulls.
The Blue Devils have made it to the ACC Championship Game but they have not been overly impressive. They barely got by Clemson in the quarterfinals and also failed to cover in the semis against N.C. State.
The Wildcats have underwhelmed this season but at least they did not flameout in the SEC Tounament.
The Gators continued their dominance of the SEC with an easy quarterfinal victory over Missouri.
The National League lost the World Series last year with Boston defeating St. Louis. The AL got most the attention in the offseason with the Yankees paying big sums to reload and big trades like the one that moved Prince Fielder down to Texas.
