We all know who the favorites are going to be to win the 2016 College Basketball National Championship. March Madness will undoubtedly feature the Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats as headline-dominators, and teams such as the Maryland Terrapins and Kansas Jayhawks have a chance to steal some of the attention as well.
Well we are down to the final weekend now with just 4 teams remaining. If I had to I would say there are only a couple of surprises at the Final Four.
The NCAA Tournament picture looks considerably clearer following the first weekend. Several teams have tried on the Cinderella slipper, while some of the top seeds have asserted their dominance.
I think the East region has loads of possibilities. I am not seeing a lot of upsets in the first round but after that I think we could see many brackets torn up. In my estimation all 8 of the top seeds could wind up representing this region in the Final Four – I am not sure if that makes this one loaded or light.
The South is a tough region, but I think there are only four teams has a legit shot to make it to the Final Four. However, there are a couple of sleepers in the region that may do some damage, but can anybody beat red-hot Florida, who ended the season on fire and is the #1 team in the nation?
Many have been quick to say that the Midwest is one of the weaker regions in the nation, but those people are simply flat out wrong.
The Arizona Wildcats will not have the easiest road to the Final Four, with teams like Wisconsin, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Oregon –who upset the Wildcats at the end of the season–all ready to do battle in the West Region.
Basketball in the West often gets a bad wrap. They aren’t all in this region but teams from the PAC 12, MWC, WCC and pretty well represented. Heck one of them even got a #1 seed. For me this is the lightest bracket of them all and not because Gonzaga is at the top.
By my count there are 7 teams in this bracket talented enough to end up representing this region in the Final Four in Atlanta. That should make for some very competitive action from now until then. Here is a sneak preview before we go any deeper.
The Kansas Jayhawks are the top seed in the South Region of this year’s NCAA Tournament Bracket. Kansas finished at the top of the Big 12 in the regular season, and they went on to win the Big 12 Tournament title as well. Most experts believe the South Region is one of the easiest in this year’s bracket.
The Louisville Cardinals were given the number one overall seed in this year’s March Madness Bracket by the selection committee. What was their reward for being the top overall seed? Somehow it seems like the Cardinals have been given the toughest region loaded with perennial powerhouses that normally have a lot of success in the NCAA Tournament.
