Well the Cavs have done it. They have used their blue collar approach to climb to the top of the ACC mountain, besting perennial contenders like Duke and North Carolina as well as newcomers like Syracuse. [ad-4468020]

Virginia

This is a defense first bunch that is not always pretty but gets the job done. However, since they struggle to score at times they are not able to put teams away like some of the other top seeds.

This season has seen the emergence of guard Malcolm Brogdon as an elite player. He can score, handle and plays great defense so if the Cavs go far he could be one of the players we hear a lot about. Fellow guard Joe Harris was all ACC last season but this year he has really struggled shooting.

You have to think for this team to make a really deep run that he needs to pick it up…a lot.

These teams last met in the postseason in 2003, an easy win by Virginia – no surprise. I feel good about saying the Cavs will win again but would never give up that much chalk. Only once all season long has Virginia been this big a favourite, in their opener against James Madison.

They failed to cover in that one.

Coastal Carolina

It has been a long time since the Chanticleers made an appearance in the Big Dance. Lucky for Coastal that is not true for their coach Cliff Ellis who is taking his 4th team to the Tourney and has advance a few of them beyond the first weekend.

Coastal Carolina has no significant wins to speak of and makes the tournament after winning both the regular season and conference tournament championships in the Big South.

Like so many small conference teams the Chanticleers strength is on the perimeter. They have three guards that average better than 14 points per game. The do have one legit post player in the form of El Hadji Ndieguene but that might not be too bad given that Virginia is hardly a bruising team inside.

The key will be whether that trio of guards can get the shots they are used to against the nation’s top defense.

Coastal Carolina has not had a lot of lined games this season but in the few they have had they are a very good 4-1 ATS. They have played teams from power conferences like the SEC, ACC and B10 but the closest they have gotten is a 2 point loss to mercurial Mississippi.

They should be solid but not threaten just cover.

Spread prediction: Coastal Carolina +22.5
