The No. 12 Oregon Ducks and the No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowboys both received a bit of bad news on Selection Sunday. Oregon was hoping for a seed higher than 12, while the Cowboys were hoping for an opponent more resembling a lower seed. Oregon’s placement is unfortunate for both teams, but it will create for one of the more exciting Round 2 matchups in the tournament.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs earned the No. 1 seed in the West region, and they’re set to take on the No. 16 Southern University Jaguars. Everybody is waiting for the day when a 16 seed finally takes down a No. 1, but you’re not likely to see that happen in this particular matchup.
All of the advanced metrics say that this Pittsburgh team is really good. They aren’t horrible but I just don’t see it. What I do see is a team that is better than average in the deepest conference in America. They have a few nice wins but this is probably one of the least impressive Pitt teams of the past decade.

They are not as good as the football team but the basketball Broncos are better than you think. They were a very good 12-2 in the nonconference part of their schedule including an impressive win at Creighton that wasn’t even close.
