This is an important game for both teams in what should be an interesting race in the B12 over the final month of the season. The Cowboys and the Red Raiders are two of the three teams with one league loss so far, so whoever loses this one is likely eliminated from contention given there are still two undefeated teams.
Its is still kind of hard to believe the season that Auburn is having, I don’t recall anyone predicting they would be a sleeper in the SEC. They beat Texas A&M on the road and their only loss this year is to LSU, also on the road.
Mizzou lost a tough one last week to South Carolina, in overtimes, and saw their chances for that truly fantastic season kind of disappear. However, they still have a chance for a much better than anyone expected season if they can recover quickly and take care of business.
The Nets are going for broke this season with the addition of aging veterans Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. When they are at their best they will add to a nice core that could make the Nets the top challengers in the East.
The Chicago Bulls season is going to hinge on whether dynamic point guard Derrick Rose is back. He hasn’t played a game that matters in 18 months so all eyes this evening will be focused on him, hopefully he showcases the extra three inches he said he has gained on his vertical leap.
After making it to the Finals the year before the Thunder came up short last year. For some they are still the team of the future but they are more than ready to win big now. As good as they are it is still about consistency. Some nights they look great and others they look average.
The San Antonio Spurs made it to the Finals last year, again, though it appears the changing of the guard may have begun. That is what they do, transition players in and out and keep winning. You hate to use the word model franchise but what else would you call it at this point.
There is going to be a different flavour to things in Denver this season with George Karl out at coach. In is Brian Shaw, who has been well schooled in the Phil Jackson way of the force but has no head coaching experience.
Forgetting how the final out was recorded the Red Sox did it again using one big blast to decide the game yesterday, in this case it was a three run homer off the bat of not even supposed to be in there Johnny Gomes – talk about building a legend.
With Tom Brady having his worst year ever it seems like the AFC East is up for grabs this season – but someone has to take it from the Patriots. Early on it looked like the Miami Dolphins could be the one to challenge but they have now lost three straight after a promising start to the season – losing to Buffalo at home last week really hurts.
The Kansas City Chiefs are now the last undefeated team in the league. They are a wonderful surprise and on the radio I heard that 48% of all teams that start 7-0 make it to the Super Bowl – Do you really think this team is going to the Super Bowl?.
These teams both come into week 8 with identical 4-3 records. For the Cowboys that puts actually them in first place in the NFC East while the Lions are keeping close tabs on the Green Bay Packers in the North.
Fresno State is one of a handful of teams that is still perfect this season, though barely as the Bulldogs have two single point victories. One of those was against Boise State and since then we have not heard much from the Bulldogs though some are pegging them as this year’s BCS Buster.
The Michigan State Spartans and their top flight defense might be all that is standing between Ohio State and a trip to the BCS Championship (I really hope not). It looks like MSU is going to be the top challenger in the Legends division but because they are so weak on offense nothing is guaranteed for this group.
Baylor is about the most exciting thing going in college football this year. Not only are they putting up more than a point per minute on offense but they are winning games and currently sit #8 in the rankings with their perfect record.
So far Texas Tech has been perfect this season, rising to #10 in the nation – but I don’t think anyone thinks this team is actually deserving of that elite opinion. Things are about to get a lot more difficult for them starting this week with a trip to Oklahoma to face the Sooners.
