Brooklyn Nets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Gambling Prediction & NBA Preview

Brooklyn vs Cleveland NBA Basketball Handicapping

The Nets are going for broke this season with the addition of aging veterans Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. When they are at their best they will add to a nice core that could make the Nets the top challengers in the East. [ad-4468020]

Brooklyn

However, there will be some nights where they look tired and there are already rumours that on some nights Garnett may be given the night off. It is a pretty grand experiment handing a novice coach like Jason Kidd a team like this .

Though the new recruits have definitely bolstered the team holdovers Deron Williams and Brooke Lopez will be critical to the team’s success, especially Lopez who is one of the few legit centers in the league. Lopez has great skill and I wonder if the greatest effect Garnett may have is to push Lopez to be all he can be.

Throw in Joe Johnson and you have one of the best starting lineups in the league.

Brooklyn is definitely one of the most intriguing teams heading into the season.

With new key players and a coach with no coaching history it is hard to know what kind of team they will be and how that will affect offensive and defensive philosophies…and ultimately point spreads and overs and unders.

It is probably best to take a moment and just observe this team. There is no doubt they are talented but I am not sure Kidd is the guy to pull it together so they might be an early fade. [ad-6571516]

Cleveland

There is a lot of excitement in Cleveland heading into this season, certainly the most there a been since LeBron left for South Beach. This team has a young core including a very promising backcourt led by Kyrie Irving.

Up front they are lacking a dominating presence(you can’t count on Bynum), hopeful that effort is going to be enough to succeed in a league with few dominant post players.

Irving has proven to be a special player over just a couple of seasons.

As the team around him improves he should become a more efficient scorer and I like what I saw in his pairing with last year’s top pick Dion Waiters, who kind of reminds me of a young Latrell Sprewell with his forceful play. This year they added another athletic and powerful wing in 2013 top pick Anthony Bennett.

Not expected to start right away he will add depth to the team as he develops.

With Irving and Waiters this team wants to get up and down the floor. Further they have no defensive stoppers so I would expect them try and play like Golden State does in their recent renaissance because they are built similarly.

Some nights they will look as good as any team in the league and other like a D league team.

They have some growing to do…and I like the upset on opening night when they let it all hang out.

Spread Pick: Cleveland +3.5
