The Aztecs of San Diego State (0-1 SU, 0-0 ATS) suffered an awful upset in their first game of the year, and on Saturday they will try to redeem themselves when they take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who, to say the least, start the 2008 season on a quest for redemption, in an NCAA college football matchup that is set for a 3:30 PM ET kickoff at Notre Dame Stadium (natural turf) in South Bend, IN.

Upping the Ante
Remember how bad you felt last September? What was usually the best time of year to be a sports fan, suddenly there was this great shadow cast over the NFL where many considered the luster of the national obsession to be permanently dulled due to the nastiness of the news.

Oddsmakers are expecting both teams to tee off in this one, but they have set the bar too high. The Under is 8-3-1 in the Mariners last 12 Monday games, 4-1-1 in the Mariners last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing record, and 4-0 in the Mariners last 4 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Utah State vs. UNLV (NCAAF) – Aug 30, 2008 10:00 PM EDT
Play: Point Spread: -12.5/-105 UNLV Pick Title:
Free Pick from Doc’s Sports. #102 Take UNLV over Utah State
Take UNLV over Utah State (Saturday 10:00 pm) The Rebels should be a much improved team in 2008 and will get off to a good start by knocking off the Aggies, a team that beat last year in Logan, 23-16. The Rebels return all of their offensive playmakers from 2007 and should be able to frustrate teams with the spread offense. They ran the ball really well last year against Utah State going for 173 yards on the ground and 4.6 yards per carry. The Aggies are predicted to finish last in a very competitive WAC Conference and must replace their quarterback and top receiver from 2007. Vegas jumps out early and will cruise to a much needed victory in the opener. This is a must win game for the Rebels if they want to go bowling and they will make a statement. Jacksonville St. vs. Georgia Tech Preview + Free Pick
NCAA Football Week One Wagering Action – Jacksonville State at Georgia Tech
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks, (6-5 SU, 5-3 Conf.) won just one game less than the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, (7-6 SU, 4-7-1 ATS, 6-5-1 O/U) in 2007 and could surprise their ‘big name’ opponents in this week one matchup judging by the team’s better-than-expected statistics from a season ago.
The Gamecocks averaged 305 total yards per contest, while allowing just 257 yards per game defensively and outscoring their opponents 27.7 points per game to 23.4.
Jacksonville State averaged 166.5 yards per game on the ground and another 172.0 through the air, and limited opponents to just 145.5 yards per contest on the grouns and 208.8 through the air.
The Gamecocks return six starters on each side of the ball, but none at the skill positions besides running back Daniel Jackson, full back Alphonso Freeney and tight end Deonte Carter. Jacksonville State also figures to have a strong defensive line with three starters returning.
Northeastern vs. Ball St. Preview + Free Pick
NCAA Football Week One Free Picks – Northeastern at Ball State
The Ball State Cardinals, (7-6 SU, 7-5 ATS, 6-6 O/U) haven’t won the Mid-American Conference championship in a dozen years, but will enter the 2008 college football betting regular season as one of the top contenders to end Central Michigan’s two-year conference reign, largely based on the team’s explosive offense.
While the team returns every offensive starter from last season, the Cardinals do have some concerns on defense, not to mention the fact that the club struggled in a big way in short-yardage situations.
Quarterback Nate Davis is talented and experienced and has two All-Mac performers as targets in tight end Darius Hill and wide receiver Dante Love. The team overhauled its front seven in an effort to bring more pressure along the defensive line. Ball State also has one of the best punters in the nation in senior Chris Miller.
