NCAA Football Week One Wagering Action – Jacksonville State at Georgia Tech

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks, (6-5 SU, 5-3 Conf.) won just one game less than the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, (7-6 SU, 4-7-1 ATS, 6-5-1 O/U) in 2007 and could surprise their ‘big name’ opponents in this week one matchup judging by the team’s better-than-expected statistics from a season ago.

The Gamecocks averaged 305 total yards per contest, while allowing just 257 yards per game defensively and outscoring their opponents 27.7 points per game to 23.4.

Jacksonville State averaged 166.5 yards per game on the ground and another 172.0 through the air, and limited opponents to just 145.5 yards per contest on the grouns and 208.8 through the air.

The Gamecocks return six starters on each side of the ball, but none at the skill positions besides running back Daniel Jackson, full back Alphonso Freeney and tight end Deonte Carter. Jacksonville State also figures to have a strong defensive line with three starters returning.

NCAA Football Week One Free Picks – Northeastern at Ball State

The Ball State Cardinals, (7-6 SU, 7-5 ATS, 6-6 O/U) haven’t won the Mid-American Conference championship in a dozen years, but will enter the 2008 college football betting regular season as one of the top contenders to end Central Michigan’s two-year conference reign, largely based on the team’s explosive offense.

While the team returns every offensive starter from last season, the Cardinals do have some concerns on defense, not to mention the fact that the club struggled in a big way in short-yardage situations.

Quarterback Nate Davis is talented and experienced and has two All-Mac performers as targets in tight end Darius Hill and wide receiver Dante Love. The team overhauled its front seven in an effort to bring more pressure along the defensive line. Ball State also has one of the best punters in the nation in senior Chris Miller.
