Japan has failed to win a match on its way to being knocked out in the group stage of the World Cup two prior times, and it looks to be three, unless they can find a way to beat a very tough and talented Colombian side that sits atop the group C table.
Colombia got off to a great start with a 3-0 victory over Greece. They were the favourites and played like it against a Greek team that is not very threatening.
Both Japan and Greece arrive in Natal after suffering losses in their opening World Cup matches, and a win or loss to either in their second, could very well decided who goes home early and who stays in Brazil a little longer this summer.
Colombia enters as this summer’s Group C favorite in Brazil, and will open its World Cup play against a stubborn Greece side that are not expected to make it out of the group stage, much less the finals.
While Group C appears to be fairly evenly matched, and there are plenty of different styles within the group that should make for some relatively interesting and competitive matches.
