Underdogs To Bet On – 2016 College Basketball National Championship

Betting College Basketball Futures?

We all know who the favorites are going to be to win the 2016 College Basketball National Championship. March Madness will undoubtedly feature the Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats as headline-dominators, and teams such as the Maryland Terrapins and Kansas Jayhawks have a chance to steal some of the attention as well.

But which teams have a chance to upset the top-tier contenders, making a name for themselves as sleepers?

Here’s a look at which teams you should look out for entering the 2015-16 NCAA Basketball season.

Iowa State Cyclones (25/1)

The Iowa State Cyclones probably don’t count as a traditional underdog. They’re currently slated as a potential top-10 team, but this team is dealing with the adversity of losing head coach Fred Hoiberg to the NBA, and they’re coming off a disappointing loss in their first game of last year’s tournament.

But losing that game to No. 14 UAB could ultimately be the best thing that’s happened to this program, as it pertains to chances in 2016.

If Iowa State had made a deep run, Georges Niang probably would’ve declared for for the NBA, but now he’s coming back with something to prove.

Louisville Cardinals (40/1)

The Louisville Cardinals are losing key members of their rotation from last season entering 2014-15.  Montrezl Harrell, Terry Rozier and Wayne Blackshear are all gone, but they do return a few key components as well.

Quentin Snider, Shaqquan Aaron and Mangok Mathiang are all coming back for 2015-16. Rick Pitino is always worth taking a gamble on, and assuming he can get the most out of his newest recruiting class, he’ll be ready to compete when it counts.

Baylor Bears (75/1)

The Baylor Bears won’t be favorites in many eyes next season, but they have the luxury of having returning players Taurean Prince and Rico Gathers leading the way as one of the best one-two frontcourt punches in the nation.

Ball-handling could prove to be an issue here, as it has in the past. But Lester Medford has the chance to turn that around.

No sleeper is a guarantee, but Baylor has potential to shed the underdog label with solid play entering March Madness.

Butler Bulldogs (75/1)

The Butler Bulldogs are almost always a team worthy of sleeper status. They’re never going to be considered a favorite, yet they’re not a team you should count out at any point until they’re officially toast.

The Bulldogs are set to bring back most of their roster, which is essential considering they’re losing Alex Barlow and Kameron Woods.

Add Nate Fowler and Sean McDermott, and once again, you have a team that will quietly be worth consideration.
