UFC will hit the century mark with UFC 100 this Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The marquee matchup for the big night you ask? The rematch between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title.
UFC 97 doesn’t have quite the amazing roster of fights that UFC 100 has, but it does feature one of the most anticipated light heavyweight fights the organization has seen in a while.
Both Chuck Liddell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua have all the talent in the world, but they haven’t given very impressive performances in recent fights. Despite losing 3 of his last 4 fights, Liddell is the favorite in this one at -200 to +150 for Rua.
Rua vs. Coleman: The Rematch
The second biggest fight of the night pits Mauricio Rua (-400) against Mark Coleman (+250) in a re-match of their PRIDE fight that took place in Japan in 2006. It ended with the hall of fame Coleman pulling off a stunning upset by breaking Rua’s arm in the first round.
At the ripe old age of 44 and with his last fight taking place more than two years ago, it seems as if many of the experts aren’t giving Mark “The Hammer” Coleman any sort of chance against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland.
The former Ohio State wrestler and one of the pioneers of the wrestling-based “ground and pound” style enters the octagon against the 27-year old Rua as a decided underdog in the betus.com sports books. Rua is a +400 to -250 favorite over Coleman, who beat him by what some observers call a fluky arm break back in 2006.
No offense to Alan Belcher, but when he enters the octagon on January 17th at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland, most eyes in the building will be on his opponent, UFC newcomer Denis Kang.
Kang’s sometimes flashy fighting style and tantalizing athletic ability helped land him a four-fight contract with the UFC after fighting in tons of other organizations, and now the half-Korean, half-French middleweight challenger will have to justify it with a win over Belcher.
