Coach K has his team at a dominant level as they prepare to do battle with the Pac 12 Utah Utes. The Utes have shown no signs of letting up as they’ve knocked off Stephen F. Austin and Georgetown with no problems.

Duke

The last time Duke was the number 1 seed in the South Region was 5 years ago.

If that is any indication at what Duke is destined for, then Friday should be no problem for them. 5 years ago the Blue Devils raised the NCAA Basketball championship. They hope history repeats itself as they prep to battle the Utes from Utah.

Duke had little problem with 16 seed Robert Morris in their first matchup. Robert Morris had cut the lead in the 2nd half to 10, before Duke pulled away late. In their 2nd matchup, the Blue Devils had zero problem with San Diego State. Now, they’ll face a swarming defense that could possibly cause them some fits.

Duke is led by the man in the middle Jahlil Okafor. The center is averaging 18.1 points this season, but has easily surpassed that in both of Duke’s tournament games. Okafor went for 21 against Robert Morris and 26 against the Aztecs.

Duke has held their the opposition to under 57 points in their last 7 games. That sits well below their season averaged allowed of 64.8 points a game.

Utah

The Utes came in as an under the radar 5 seed in this tournament. Many people prediction that Stephen F. Austin would eliminate the Utes in the 2nd round matchup. Utah caused Austin many fits defensively en route to a 7 point win. In their 2nd game, Utah controlled the game from start to finish as they eliminated Georgetown with an 11 point victory.

Utah, who finished 2nd in the Pac 12, finished the season on an inconsistent streak as they alternated wins and losses over their last 7 games.

Leading the way for Utes is Senior G Delon Wright. The guard has scored a combined 23 points in both tournament games and has grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. Wright has filled the stat sheet, which in turn has led to the success of the Utes.

Another key for Utah has been their exceptional free throw shooting. Four of the five top scorers for Utah are shooting nearly 82 percent from the line a piece.

This has led to Utah being able to close out games down the stretch.
