Basketball in the West often gets a bad wrap. They aren’t all in this region but teams from the PAC 12, MWC, WCC and pretty well represented. Heck one of them even got a #1 seed. For me this is the lightest bracket of them all and not because Gonzaga is at the top.
Headline: Penguins Look For 10th Straight Win Tuesday Night
Two teams that everyone was looking at in the Eastern Conference before the season started as favorites take to the ice Tuesday night with very different feelings about where they sit half way through the season. For the Penguins, they will try to build off an impressive nine game win streak and for the Caps they are just trying to give themselves a shot at making the playoffs this year.
March Madness is here baby and everyone is filling out there brackets to see if Lady Luck is on their side. It is never easy to pick the 4 region winners of the NCAA Tournament, but I will give you my take on who I think will be heading to the Final 4.
By my count there are 7 teams in this bracket talented enough to end up representing this region in the Final Four in Atlanta. That should make for some very competitive action from now until then. Here is a sneak preview before we go any deeper.
The Kansas Jayhawks are the top seed in the South Region of this year’s NCAA Tournament Bracket. Kansas finished at the top of the Big 12 in the regular season, and they went on to win the Big 12 Tournament title as well. Most experts believe the South Region is one of the easiest in this year’s bracket.
The Louisville Cardinals were given the number one overall seed in this year’s March Madness Bracket by the selection committee. What was their reward for being the top overall seed? Somehow it seems like the Cardinals have been given the toughest region loaded with perennial powerhouses that normally have a lot of success in the NCAA Tournament.
Headline: Eastern Conference Outsiders – Flyers vs. Lightning With Playoff Spot in Sight
Two of the more disappointing teams in the Eastern Conference meet in Tampa Bay on Monday night as the Philadelphia Flyers and the Tampa Bay Lightning try to make up a little ground on the top eight in the East – the Flyers are currently six points back of eighth and the Lightning sit eight points out of the final playoff spot.
The Wolfpack were able to get the game flowing and had a relatively easy time in beating Virginia, beating by 20 a team they lost to earlier in the season.
The Bulldogs are doing their usual thing of building towards the tournament. They exorcised a demon in the quarterfinals by beating a La Salle team that beat them earlier in the season.
The Wolverines are the second highest ranked team in the conference despite finishing tied for fourth in the standings. As a result they didn’t get a bye like Wisconsin even though they were tied with them.
The Wolfpack had a pretty easy time of it in beating Virginia Tech to advance to the next round of the ACC Tournament. Now it is Virginia, a team they lost to earlier during the season setting off a mini-slump.
Southeast Division Showdown – Hurricanes Host Capitals Thursday Night
The surging Carolina Hurricanes will look to extend the woes of the Washington Capitals on Thursday night as the two sides square off in the back end of a home-and-home series.
If memory serves I think there was some buzz about the Hawks being a surprise team in the Atlantic 10 conference this season.
Huge win by the Bears to close the season. By toppling Kansas, handily by the way, they were able to finish the conference schedule with a .500 record and prove they can play with the big boys.
The PGA pros head to Tampa Bay this week and the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club – one week after a very intriguing Cadillac. Innisbrook proved to be a fairly easy track for the pros last year – the scoring average was 70.723 which made it the fifth easiest Par 71 track on TOUR.

Two struggling Eastern Conference teams will look to make up a little ground when they meet in the first leg of a home-and-home series Wednesday Night. The Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils are both coming off wins but each has stumbled during the middle part of the NHL season.
