Since Chicago’s last win against Minnesota, the Hawks are 3-4-0 while the Wild have won three straight games and look as though they are starting to turn the corner.
The Chicago Blackhawks continue a road trip that hasn’t gone so well – they dropped two of three games in California and are coming off a 2-0 loss at San Jose on Saturday. Chicago ended January with an unflattering 6-7-1 record to fall out of the top tier of NHL teams.
Chicago’s offense has been off but they are still one of the best teams in terms of goals for in the league. They are averaging 2.98 goals per game but a number of their stars have struggled as of late. Marian Hossa and Brandon Saad are pointless in their last three games which speaks to their depth not living up their billing. Patrick Sharp has been Hot however – he has six points in his last three games and Patrick Kane has five points in his last three.

It is only a matter of time before Chicago returns to dominance in the offensive zone – bets are that it will come sooner rather than later.
Corey Crawford will get the start between the pipes after getting the night off in San Jose. He has been OK lately but has enjoyed a ton of success against Minnesota. He has a 1.20 GAA while winning his last four starts against Minnesota, including the postseason.
The Minnesota Wild have been largely disappointing this year and most of the blame can be traced to their lack of defense and goaltending. The Wild surrender an average of 2.82 goals per game but have been much better since the acquisition of Devan Dubnyk who has been terrific between the pipes. He is 5-1-0 with a 1.57 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in seven starts since being acquired from Arizona on Jan. 14. However Dubnyk has had his share of troubles against Chicago – 0-4-0 with a 4.90 GAA in his last five starts against the Blackhawks.
Minnesota enters with an average offense – they are averaging 2.71 goals per game this year but have picked up their game lately. They are coming off a four goal performance against the Vancouver Canucks in a game that they carried the play and spent much of the game in their opposition’s end. Zach Parise has eight points in his last seven games, Thomas Vanek has four points in four games and Ryan Suter has three points in his last four games – the stars for the Wild are doing their part. With improved defense, Minnesota looks poised to make a run at a playoff spot in the West.
