Although both teams currently sit in Wild Card positions in the West, their recent play has them looking anything but playoff caliber teams. The Jets have lost four straight games while giving up five goals in each while the Canucks have lost three of their last four while surrendering four goals in each of those losses.

The wheels look like they are coming off the Winnipeg Jets. They’ve allowed five goals in four straight after allowing five once in their previous 48 contests – ugly numbers indeed. They are coming off a 5-2 loss in Calgary last night and enter Tuesday’s game with absolutely zero momentum.

The Jets are the most penalized team in the NHL and their penalty kill have been absolutely awful the last two weeks. They have surrendered eight goals on the last 16 Power Play chances against – that’s not going to get it done! Vancouver’s Power Play has been dreadful the last few weeks but has a real chance to get on track Tuesday night.

Offensively the Jets are a middle of the pack team – not nearly good enough to overcome the five goals against that they are surrendering each night. Andrew Ladd has four points in his last two games and Blake Wheeler has two points in his last two games but that is where the Hot List ends. Evander Kane is pointless in three games and Zach Bogosian has been held off the score sheet in six games.

Winnipeg’s goaltender hasn’t been named yet but Michael Hutchinson has really struggled and got the hook last night in Calgary – he has a GAA over 5.00 in his last three starts. Ondrej Pavelec hasn’t been much better and is 1-3-1 with a 2.79 GAA in five career matchups with Vancouver. Either way Winnipeg looks as though they will be in trouble again between the pipes.

The Vancouver Canucks are three points behind Winnipeg in the standings entering Tuesday night’s clash. Defense and goaltending has been their issue as well. The Canucks are giving up a boat load of goals and have been vulnerable on the penalty kill – allowing four goals on the last 11 chances.

Ryan Miller has struggled after an incredible streak a couple of weeks ago. He is 1-2-0 with a 2.76 GAA and .875 save percentage in his last three starts. Miller is 3-4-0 with a 2.86 GAA in four starts versus Winnipeg. He could sit in favor of Eddie Lack (3-6-2, 2.61 goals-against average, .912 save percentage) who hasn’t been seen since January 13.

Vancouver’s offense continues to struggles – they have scored one or less goals in five of their last nine games – the scored twice in a loss Sunday and were shut out by the Ducks on Friday. Daniel Sedin, Radim Vrbata, Chris Higgins and Chris Tanev each have two points in two games but there is nobody ripping it up for the Canucks right now. Captain Henrik Sedin has collected 15 points – 12 assists – over his last 17 contests – by far the hottest Canuck right now. Alex Burrows is pointless in three games and Jannik Hansen hasn’t recorded a point in four – Vancouver’s depth is a huge question mark as always as we head into Tuesday night’s game.

The power play has done nothing but gets a real chance to right the ship Tuesday against Winnipeg’s horrid penalty kill.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 18-6-2 in WIN last 26 overall.
• WIN are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 11-3-1 in VAN last 15 overall.
• VAN are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. Central.
• Under is 5-2-1 in VAN last 8 home games.

The Jets and the Canucks are giving up a ton of goals at the moments – I can’t see either team stopping the bleeding on Tuesday night. The Jets simply can’t keep the puck out of the back of their net and will be an especially tired bunch after playing in Calgary last night. The Canucks may be overdue for an offensive explosion Tuesday night. The play here is the Over – this game looks like a 4-3 final to me!
