Tennessee Titans vs. Carolina Panthers Free NFL Betting Picks

Venue/ Stadium Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC

After a hot start the Titans (4-4) have lost 2 of their last 3 games and they have to start winning to keep pace with the Texans in the AFC South. The Panthers are coming off a bye and they have only won 2 games all season and while Cam Newton has shown he is the real deal Carolina still has big concerns on the defensive side of the ball.

Tennessee Titans vs. Carolina Panthers Preview

NFL lines have the Panthers as 3.5 home favorites in this game with a total of 46.5.

A couple weeks back in their last game Carolina lost to the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 and Tennessee lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-17 last week.

Tennessee RB Chris Johnson has struggled all season and if there was any game to get back on track it is this one facing a Panthers’ run defense that ranks 27th in the league and gave up 132 rushing yards to the Vikings in their last loss.

Titans’ QB Matt Hasselbeck has been decent this season, but he does not have a great WR corps. The Panthers’ pass defense ranks 13nd in the league, but they rank 2nd to last in the league giving up over 8 yards per reception. Hasselbeck has to play well in this game and that is especially the case if Johnson’s struggles continue. Carolina only has 16 sacks on the season, but they have to pressure Hasselbeck in the pocket and if they can do that they will be in great shape. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Cam Newton has thrown for the 6th most passing yards this season he has a couple of great targets in WR Steve Smith, who has the 2nd most receiving yards n the league, and TE Greg Olson, who both have 4 TD catches. While Newton had racked up the passing yards he has been plagued by the INT with 9 on the season even though he was not picked off in the Panthers’ last game. The Tennessee pass defense ranks 15th in the league and they are also in the middle of the pack with 8 INT.

The Panthers’ offense is also getting good play from their 8th ranked rushing attack with Newton and the RB duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart each with over 300 rushing yards on the season. The Titans have struggled to defend the run this season ranking 23rd in the league in opponents’ rushing yards per game.

Betting Trends

This season Tennessee is 3-5 ATS and has an O/U record of 4-4 and Carolina is 5-3 and has an O/U record of 5-3.

Tennessee is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss, and has an Over record of 8-3 in Titans last 11 games as an underdog.

Carolina is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games, and has an Under record of 9-1 in their last 10 games as a favorite.

Jason’s Pick: I think Newton will have another good game, but I also think Johnson will snap out of his season long slump and have a big game leading the Titans to a win. Take the Under as well, as these teams will not light up the scoreboard.
