A win by Seattle will give them a two game lead in the Conference and will also give them tiebreakers over the Saints and the Panthers – the nearest teams in the standings to them.

A win by New Orleans would give them control in the Conference. Home field advantage is enormous for both teams – each is virtually unbeatable in their respective buildings.

The New Orleans Saints are a legitimate threat to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. They enter Monday’s game with the 3rd ranked offense in the game and the 10th ranked defense as well.

Coach Sean Payton has his team playing very well in every aspect of the game – the Saints are as balanced as they have been since winning the Super Bowl only a few years ago.

Drew Brees is second in the NFL with 3,647 passing yards, 28 TDs and just 8 interceptions. he has weapons top spare – Jimmy Graham is one of the single biggest difference makers in the league, Marques Colston and Kenny Stills have proven reliable targets, Darren Sproles continues to be one of the best dual-threat backs in the game and the Saints running game has shown signs of life recently.

You simply cannot shut down the Saints offense – you have to pick your poison and hope to limit what they do to your defense.

Speaking of defense – how well have the Saints responded to Rob Ryan’s defensive schemes? They have generated 37 sacks this year – best in the NFL and have created their share of turnovers along the way. New Orleans has gone from one of the worst ever defenses to a very formidable on over the course of this year.

The Seattle Seahawks are a deserved #1 seed in the NFL – they have taken care of business on both sides of the ball all year long. An area of concern ahead of their Monday night contest? Defensive Backs Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond have both been suspended for substance abuse leaving a hole where in the vaunted legion of boom.

The depth will be challenged for sure but with an extra week to prepare for the Saints chances are that Pete Carroll has something up his sleeve.

Seattle’s offense will be better with the return of 3/4 of their offensive line. LT Russell Okung and RT Breno Giacomini will be back on the field as will Pro Bowl center Max Unger to protect their QB and slow the Saints furious pass rush. Wilson has been terrific this year but has certainly not been the same without the big boys ahead of him.

That said it will likely be Marshawn Lynch’s play that determines the winner of Monday’s game. He has been stellar at home so far this year and has 925 yards rushing and 9 TDs on the season. Seattle will be looking to chew up some clock to keep Brees and company off the field and should have some success doing so.

And then there’s the added element of Percy Harvin who will get the reins taken off this week. An extra week of practice should have been enough for this team to dream up a few gadget plays for perhaps one of the more dangerous offensive players in the game.

Monday Night Football Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:

• NO are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games in December.
• Over is 8-3 in NO last 11 Mon. games.
• NO are 20-9 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Over is 12-2 in SEA last 14 games in December.
• SEA are 10-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Over is 7-2 in SEA last 9 games in Week 13.

As previously mentioned the Saints and the Seahawks are virtually unbeatable on home turf – the Seahawks haven’t lost at CenturyLink since Christmas Eve 2011. Betting against the Hawks on home turf has been suicide! Off the bye, with a healthy O-Line and Percy Harvin, I like the Hawks to win this marquee matchup by a touchdown.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks -4 1/2
