Jacksonville vs. Cleveland NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

I know that every league and every sport has its meaningless games but they just seem harsher in the NFL, maybe it is because the game is so physical so it is hard to imagine playing when there is really nothing at stake (except paychecks).

Anyways, this is definitely one of those as neither of these teams has much to play for a this point.

Give some credit to Jacksonville though for showing some signs of life lately. Before the season started they were looking like they would be historically bad.

It turns out they were just plain run of the mill bad.

Jacksonville

The Jaguars are pretty bad but maybe not as bad as we want them to be.

That seems like a funny statement but this team that was supposed to be the worst team of all time has two road wins already and is gunning for more in Cleveland this weekend.

They might get there too if they can get RB Maurice Jones-Drew going against a pretty stingy defense. Jones-Drew is coming off his best game of the season and is certainly capable of carrying the offense, especially if weather conditions make it a little raw out there – his style makes it so that nobody really want to tackle him.

The Jags struggle to score but if they can push past 20 points, something they have done just once all season long, they may grab another road upset.Their awful defense needs all the support they can get. Awful might be kind.

Cleveland

It seems like a long time ago now that Hoyer-mania was all the rage and an improved defense was going to mean that the Browns were suddenly to be taken seriously.

This team has still been playing good defense but is proof positive that if you don’t have a good quarterback in this league you are toast.

Even with reserve Jason Campbell playing the best football of his career (I know relative) they have been having trouble getting the better of teams.

This week Campbell is out with a concussion which means that Brandon Weeden is being given another chance to prove just how ready he isn’t. All of this may be moot though because they are playing the Jags this week.

There is no such thing as a gimme for the Browns but this should be close, however, other have thought that too and fallen to Jacksonville, and recently too.

Spread Pick: Jacksonville +7
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Cleveland 20 – Jacksonville 17
