The New York Giants will look to keep pace with Philadelphia atop the NFC East with a win, when they travel to the Mall of America Field in Minneapolis this upcoming Sunday afternoon to take on the Minnesota Vikings. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast regionally on FOX.

The up and down New York Giants are up again and looking to win their third straight game after a 24-20 win over Jacksonville as an eight-point home favorite and a 31-7 pasting of Washington as a seven-point home favorite in their past two games. New York finds itself 8-4 straight-up (6-6 against the spread) and tied with the Eagles for first place in the division. These two teams meet next week in the New Meadowlands in a game that will most likely decide the East, but the Giants know they cannot afford to look past this game despite the Vikings record.

The combination of relentless pass rush and punishing ground game is back in full swing for New York as it has recorded 11 sacks and 393 rushing yards in its last three games. So far this year, Ahmad Bradshaw has rushed for 1,013 yards on 219 carries and Brandon Jacobs has added another 577 yards on 100 carries making this one of the best two-back offenses in the league. QB Eli Manning has done a good job taking care of the ball the past two weeks with just one interception and no fumbles. NFL Betting

The big story out of Minnesota this week is the availability of QB Brett Favre for this game. Favre sustained a fairly serious shoulder injury in last week’s 38-14 win over Buffalo and is in serious jeopardy of seeing his NFL-record 297 game consecutive starting streak come to an end. The Vikings have actually won their last two games and are currently not completely out of the playoff picture at  5-7 SU ( 4-8 ATS) on the year.

While it is a given that Favre will do whatever it takes to be out there on Sunday, backup QB Tarvaris Jackson will be ready to go after completing 68.2 percent of his passes for 187 yards and two TD’s in relief of Favre last week. He was also sacked once and threw three interceptions which would play right into the hands of the Giants’ defense. Minnesota’s only hope in this one would be to continue to ride the back of Adrian Peterson, who has already rushed for 1,123 yards on 233 carries and scored a team-high 11 TD’s.

Trends:
New York is 1-3 ATS in its last four games overall but 3-1 ATS in its last four games on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last seven games overall.
Minnesota is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall, but 3-2 ATS in its last five home games. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of its last nine games overall.

Head-to-head, the Vikings have won the last four games SU and is 3-1 ATS including a 44-7 pounding last season as a nine-point home favorite. The total has gone ‘over’ in two of the last three meetings.

The Brett Favre situation aside, this is shaping up as a potential trap game for New York. While its defense should have a field day no matter who is behind center, the Giants have still struggled this season with teams they should easily beat. Take the Vikings to grind out a close win at home behind a big effort from Peterson.

The Pick: Minnesota +2 ½
