Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles take their show on the road this Sunday night for a crucial NFC East showdown with the resurgent Dallas Cowboys in the first of two meetings this season between these two bitter rivals. Kickoff from Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington is set for 8:20 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

Philadelphia is currently 8-4 straight-up (6-6 against the spread) and locked in a battle with the Giants for first place in the division. The outcome will most likely be decided when the two teams meet next week at the New Meadowlands Stadium, but first it will have to deal with a Cowboys team that has suddenly found out how to win again. This could be bad news for the Eagles as the memory of two beatings in Big D at the end of last season are still fresh in their head.

Fortunately, this year the Eagles have a new and improved Michael Vick leading a No. 1 ranked offense that can put points on the board faster than any other team in the league. Last week, they rolled over Houston 34-24 as an 8 ½ point home favorite and are averaging 28.7 points per game which is tops in the NFC. NFL Betting

The defense, which has been suspect as of late especially against the pass, should get a boost from the return of All-Pro CB Asante Samuel, who missed the last few games with a knee injury. Samuel leads the team in interceptions with seven and the Eagles currently lead the league with 20.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones decided to fire head coach Wade Philips mid-season and give Jason Garrett an audition  for the job on an interim basis. So far the experiment has worked to near perfection as the Cowboys have won three of four games under the new skipper and are playing like the team everyone expected at the beginning of the season. It is amazing what a threat to job security does for one’s performance. Dallas is currently 4-8 SU on the year and 5-7 ATS. While it is out of the playoff picture for this season, it can still relish the role of playing spoiler for the Eagles’ postseason plans.

Backup QB John Kitna, who is filling in for the injured Tony Romo, survived some early bumps and has played at a high level over the past three games. He has completed 71.8 percent of his passes and thrown four TD’s  against just one interception during this span. The bad news for the Cowboys is the loss of WR/KR Dez Bryant, who is done for the year after breaking his ankle in last week’s win over Indianapolis. He was the team’s third leading receiver but his greatest contribution was establishing excellent field position returning kicks.

Trends:

Philadelphia is 3-1 ATS in its last four games overall and 3-2 ATS in its last five road games. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of its last eight games.
Dallas is 4-0 ATS in its last four games overall and the total has gone ‘over’ in its last nine games overall.

Head-to-head, the Cowboys have won the last three games both SU and ATS including a 34-14 win as a 3 ½ point home favorite in last year’s Wildcard round of the playoffs.

One thing you can count on in this game is a lot of points by both teams so betting heavy on the ‘over’ is a given. You know that Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid will make sure that last year’s embarrassing performances in Big-D are still etched firmly in his team’s minds. Take the Eagles to win outright, but the Cowboys will not make it easy and cover with the 3 ½ points.

The Pick: Dallas +3 ½ and OVER.
