The Crimson Tide were a bit sloppy in their 24-3 victory over Penn State, but they definitely showed that they have the horses to make another title run. Mark Ingram should be back for this one, which once again gives Alabama the best tailback tandem in the entire country.

The Alabama offense was quite successful moving the football against Penn State, but the team was unhappy with the amount of penalties and mental mistakes they had. Trent Richardson has showed why he is one of the best backs in the nation during his time starting for the injured Mark Ingram. Richardson is actually a better receiver out of the backfield and his strength is tremendous. McElroy continues to lead this offense well, and he has gotten great at taking care of the football. McElroy hasn’t thrown an interception yet this year and his leadership skills are clearly developing. The offense will be a force to be reckoned with every single week.

The Alabama defense has only two starters back from last year, but that definitely doesn’t mean this is a weak unit. Hightower and Barron are the leaders on this defense, and this unit is full of all kinds of NFL ready talent that is just a little short on experience. How has this inexperienced defense fared to start the season? They have allowed just 6 points total in two games and they continue to stop the run. No individual player has rushed for 100 yards on this defense since 2007, an amazing streak of 36 straight games. College Football

Duke

The Duke Blue Devils are obviously known for being a basketball power, but the football program has definitely improved over the last couple years. David Cutcliffe is doing a solid job here, and the team is definitely on the right track.

The Blue Devils offense has already proven they can point some points on the board this season. Sean Renfree and the offense rolled up 487 yards in last weekend’s 54-48 loss to Wake Forest. This offense will definitely look to throw the ball first, as Renfree and his receivers seem to have a nice connection that helps the quick passes be effective. Connor Vernon, Austin Kelly, and Donovan Varner are all very capable receivers that will help this offense all year. Desmond Scott is young, but he has a ton of potential to make some noise out of the backfield in the next year or two.

The offense is a strength right now, but the defense is quite weak for Duke. In Duke’s last five games overall they are allowing a ridiculous 41.8 points per game. Wake Forest may have some nice pieces on offense, but when they put up 45 points on you to end last year and then 54 to start ACC play this year, you know there is a problem. The defensive line is a huge weakness, and this team will likely get gashed for big running gains all year long. The Blue Devils front seven is not deep at all, so that will be a big concern through all of 2010.

The Pick:

This game really is a complete mismatch. The Crimson Tide can run on anyone and Duke cannot stop the run no matter who they are playing. Expect Richardson and Ingram to both chew up this defense and McElroy to throw a couple deep balls to keep the Blue Devils off guard. I like the Crimson Tide -24 in this one.

Alabama vs. Duke Score Prediction: Alabama 44 Duke 10
