Buffalo lost its first two games of the year, but it can find solace in the fact that both losses were to national title contenders, Ohio State and Baylor. San Diego State also lost to Oho State, while also falling to Eastern Illinois and Ohio State in its first three games.

Unfortunately, both teams are coming off of a season finale loss, meaning neither team has momentum at this point in the process.

Buffalo

Despite losing its first two games of the year, Buffalo made a name for itself with a big five-overtime win over Stony Brook. That game sparked a seven-game winning streak, and it won eight of its last 10 games to close out the year.

During the seven-game winning streak, Buffalo gave up only 10 points per contest. The Bulls are 7-2 ATS in their last nine overall, and if they hope to keep that trend going, they’ll need to take advantage of a horrid passing defense.

San Diego State is just 106th in the nation in passing defense. It allowed nearly 260 yards per game through the air.

The Bulls are just 67th in the FBS in passing yards completed per contest, but they’ll look to take advantage of a team that has been atrocious in that category all year long.

San Diego State

As much as San Diego State needs to defend the pass, it must also complete the pass. The team has been atrocious running the ball all season (75th in the nation, 150.8 yards per game), and attacking Buffalo’s defense is going to be key—a defense that is 38th in the nation in passing yards allowed this season.

When it comes down to it, expect San Diego State’s schedule to benefit it at this time of year. Come bowl season, the more experience you have the better, and needless to say, San Diego State has experience.

The Aztecs played eight contests that were decided by seven points or fewer. Four of their games went into overtime, and their record ATS in those contests were 6-1-1.

Don’t expect San Diego State to blow out the Bulls early, but don’t be shocked, either, if they pull away late, winning both straight up and against the spread.

Prediction: San Diego State -1
