Army

In one game this season, Army has exposed itself as once again being one-dimensional.

The problem with this is that it is 117th in the nation in passing yards.

That’s because the team threw just 125 yards in its solo game this season, which is going to be a problem against teams like Stanford that can line up big up front and focus its efforts against the run.

Luckily for Army, it’s an elite team in that offensive category. Army rushed for 341 yards in its only game this season against Buffalo, which was good enough for the ninth-best mark in the entire country.

The good news for Army is that the one-dimensional offensive approach worked in its advantage in its game against Buffalo.

Not only did it win, but it managed to score an impressive 47 points per game.

That number was good enough for 15th in the nation, but you can expect a much better defensive performance against a stout Stanford defense that is looking to right its wrongs following the loss to the Trojans.

Stanford

Although Stanford is coming off a loss, it has plenty of reason for optimism going up against Army. Not only will Army present a different, less talented approach on offense, but its defense gave up 39 points to Buffalo, which was only good enough for the 117th-best mark in the country.

Through two weeks, Stanford has established itself as a passing threat on offense, which will be a problem for Army. The Cardinal have thrown for nearly 300 yards per game through two weeks (298.5 per contest, to be exact), which puts them barely outside the top-30 mark in the nation.

Defensively, however, is where this team is elite. The Cardinal, despite facing No. 14 USC (and losing) in Week 2, is giving up just 6.5 points per contest.

That number is good enough for fourth nationwide, and it’s the biggest reason the Cardinal will look to cover the massive spread in Week 3 against Army.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends

  • Army is 5-16 ATS in its last 21 road games
  • Under is 8-2 in STAN last 10 games overall.
  • Under is 6-2 in STAN last 8 games on grass.
  • Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction

Although 28 points is a large spread for anyone in the country, give Stanford the edge this time around.

The Cardinal are looking to reclaim their spot atop the Pac-12 conference, and while a win over Army won’t mean much at the end of the year, a loss would sure put a damper on a season that began with so much promise.
