The Indiana Hoosiers picked up a couple big wins over Illinois and Minnesota, but then they dropped a home game to Iowa this past Saturday. Tom Crean’s team lost its leading scorer, Christian Watford, to a hand injury. The team also lost key guard Maurice Creek a few games ago. Depth is definitely an issue now for the Hoosiers. Purdue has lost just five games all year, but unfortunately for them, four of those five have come in the Big Ten Conference. They need to get back on track.
The Indiana Hoosiers are 0-7 on the road this year. The environment will be tough at Mackey Arena on Tuesday night. The Hoosiers had a brilliant chance to score their first road win of the year at East Lansing on January 30, but they folded down the stretch and lost in overtime. Jordan Hulls has become a bigger part of the offense, and Verdell Jones III must have a big game for Indiana.
The Purdue Boilermakers have had to deal with the biggest injury in the Big Ten this year, the loss of Robbie Hummel for a second straight year. Hummel is one of the best players in the nation when healthy, and Purdue certainly misses him in a big way. JaJuan Johnson has developed his game in a way that he has become the clear leader of this team.
Johnson has great low-post moves, and he has developed a nice outside shot as well. E’Twaun Moore is a great senior scorer as well, but the team sometimes struggles to find a solid third option.
The Pick:
Indiana’s injuries make them short on depth and I think Purdue will take advantage of that. The Boilers play very good defense at home, and I think Indiana will struggle to score. I like the under in this one.
