West Virginia: 28-6 SU, 14-19 ATS

Missouri (#10) vs.West Virginia (#2) – Sunday, March 21st, EAST REGION – 2nd ROUND AT BUFFALO NY – 2:40 ET
The 2nd-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers are favorites at –6
Mizzou +6
Over/Under: 142.5
MoneyLine:
Mizzou +210, WVU -150

These two clash in a second-round game in the East regional bracket, to be played in Syracuse, NY on Sunday.

The Missouri Tigers’ tenacity and pep overwhelmed the Clemson Tigers in an 86-78 first-round win. Mizzou was able to envelope Clemson’s offensive weapons like the diminutive Andre Young (5”9), but they should have a more daunting task with West Virginia’s imposing line-up of forwards.

WVU’s scoring goes through 6”7 De’Sean Butler, 6”8 Kevin Jones and 6”9 Devin Ebanks. These are three players that have size and can run well; they can undoubtedly cause match-up trouble for the overachieving Tigers. Sophomore guard Darryl Bryant chips in with 9.5 PPG and three helpers per.

The Mountaineers finished the season second in the star-studded Big East and with a #5 national ranking.

They certainly have the horses to out-pace Mizzou right out of the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

To pull an upset, Mizzou needs the scoring of guards Kim English and Marcus Denmon as well as the stifling defense of J.T. Tiller to be in top form, like it was against Clemson.

Tigers forward Keith Ramsey played a strong game against Clemson with 20 points, Mizzou will also need some more of that if Sweet 16 basketball is in the cards for the Show-Me State.

Missouri will be noticeably undersized in this game. The Tigers must rely on their swiftness and tactics to catch the intimidating Mountaineers off-guard.

If Mizzou can chop a leg out from under this two-seed tower in the first half, there might just be enough NCAA tournament magic for us to see another upset.

Free Mountaineers vs. Tigers Free Tournament Pick: Butler, Jones and Ebanks should dominate Missouri’s frontcourt. As we’ve seen thus far, anything can happen in March Madness, but on paper West Virginia ought to handle its opponent; don’t hold your breath for any different outcome.

Score Prediction: West Virginia 61, Missouri 52
