These teams meet in a second-round game in the Midwest regional bracket, to be played in St. Louis, MO on Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets showed guts in a victory over a tough Oklahoma State squad in the opening round. Ohio State, meanwhile, rolled 15-seed UC Santa Barbara, 68-51.

The Jackets faced a tough player last game in James Anderson, but they must focus on containing arguably the best player in the nation when they face the Buckeyes’ Evan Turner.

Turner carried the Ohio State hoops program this season, with a well-rounded skill set to the tune of 19.9 PPG, 9.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists per. Such a balanced statistical output is remarkable; especially when added to the fact that Turner thrives when sticking daggers into opponents.

Ohio State has other contributors – namely, guards William Buford and David Lighty – but Tech’s gameplan will begin and end with containing the explosive Turner.

To pull an upset, Georgia Tech would need valiant performances from their big men duo, freshman Derrick Favors and junior Gani Lawal. Lawal, in particular, had a strong game against Oklahoma State, going for 14 points and six boards. Favors chipped in one rebound shy of a double-double. Such consistency down low – and such attention to stifling defense – will be intrinsic to Tech having success against the Big Ten’s finest.

Once Turner finds a groove, he’s very tough to slow down. The Buckeyes’ Lighty can add some veteran guile and guard Jon Diebler can heat up from beyond the arc.

When the different elements congeal, Ohio State is a worthy second-seed in the tournament.

Betting Trends:

Free Buckeyes vs. Yellow Jackets Free Tournament Pick: Look for Turner to outpace Georgia Tech defenders (as he’s done with the majority of defenders all season long) en route to leading the Buckeyes to a date in the Sweet 16 later in the week. While the Yellow Jackets ought to be able to keep it close, they must have a phenomenal performance from all contributors to pull the upset.

Score Prediction: Ohio State 73, Georgia Tech 68
