Kansas State wasn’t really challenged in their opener against North Texas. They jumped out to a 16 point lead at the half and cruised in the second half.
No one played heavy minutes which could make a difference as BYU may be tired from its overtime affair against Florida. The Wildcats formula for winning is to let guards Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente carry the scoring load with timely contributions from their forwards.
It has worked well this year and they should be able to score the ball against a BYU sqaud that wants the game as high scoring as possible.
The Wildcats will have to be careful because they are not as efficient as BYU. If they do not win the TO battle they may be in tough as BYU just keeps scoring led by superlative PG Jimmer Fredette.
BYU got the win but Florida gave them a battle forcing two overtimes before fading away. Fredette wasn’t fazed by the national stage scoring 37 points in the contest but in many ways it was the unexpected production from Michael Loyd who chipped in with 26 big points that was the difference maker.
BYU should be a little winded heading into this one but because their game is based more on precision than speed it may not be as much of a factor as expected.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cougars sit in a soft zone for stretches to challenge the Wildcats to beat them from outside.
This would also save their legs for offense which they will need to pepper K-State from the outside.

I am not sure I am a believer in Kansas State but I just don’t see them being eliminated by BYU. I think this will be one of the best games of the tournament as Fredette will keep bringing the Cougars back. Eventually he will run out of answers.
