Detroit

In the last meeting, the Pistons beat the Pacers for the third time this season thanks to Andre Drummond’s tip-in at the buzzer.

Drummond has thrived this year against Indiana totaling 36 points and 22 rebounds. On the year, Drummond is averaging 12.4 points to go along with 12.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

Since the departure of forward Josh Smith, the Pistons had been on a roll. The whole team was playing better and it appeared that the playoffs might not be that out of the question, until standout point guard Brandon Jennings went down for the season with a ruptured achilles. His replacement, D.J. Augustin, has been on fire averaging 21.8 points per game to go along with 9.2 assists.

In the Pistons last game against the Miami Heat, Augustin had an outstanding performance scoring 25 points and dishing out 13 assists.

His backcourt partner, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, added 18 points and four rebounds to outscore the Heat backcourt 43-1.

If the Pistons want to continue their dominance against the Pacers and stretch their overall win-streak to three, they must take advantage of their dominant front court and get contributions from Augustin and Caldwell-Pope.

Indiana

The Pacers have been plagued with injuries all year long. It started in the offseason with the loss of Paul George, who has a possible return set for next month, and continued with the loss of point guard George Hill because of a groin injury. Hill is expected to return in tonight’s game and for the first time in 11 games will not have his minutes monitored.

Last game Indiana lost to the Sacramento Kings 99-94 in which Hill played 22 minutes, scoring 14 points and adding six rebounds and four assists. The starting point guard is averaging 13.0 points on 42% shooting since his return from injury.

Despite the Pacers being 15 games under .500, they are still in playoff contention because of the top-heavy Eastern Conference. Coach Frank Vogel has had a difficult time finding a consistent line-up with all of the injuries, but understands his team is not finished especially with Paul George possibly returning next month.

Center Roy Hibbert and power forward David West will be faced with the challenge of containing the Pistons’ Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.

If they can keep the Pistons’ off the glass they will have an opportunity to win this game.

NBA Handicapping Tips:

  • Pistons are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
  • Pacers are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
  • Pistons are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
  • Pacers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
  • Pistons are 4-1 ATS in the last five head to head meetings.

NBA Gambling Prediction

This game will be decided with the play of the front courts’. Drummond and Monroe against West and Hibbert will be very interesting to watch. If Paul George were to be in the line-up for the Pacers, they would be the easy pick. The Pistons have been playing excellent basketball and continue to get contributions from unexpected players.

Free 4* NBA Betting Pick: DET +3.5

Look for Augustin to win the point guard battle against a non-healthy George Hill and Drummond and Monroe to control the paint.

Detroit 98, Indiana 91

Detroit will extend their win-streak to three games overall and against Indiana this year.
