The circuit was last at Bristol in March for a Sunday race won by Kyle Busch – in fact, the younger Busch brother has won four of the last five Cup races at BMS and is the clear favorite heading into Saturday’s race. Kyle has five wins here overall, as do two other drivers – (brother) Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon – though Kyle achieved his wins in significantly fewer starts than the other two.

Safe Bet: (odds of less than 10/1)

– Kyle Busch (7/2): As noted above, Kyle has been dominant at Bristol Motor Speedway the past few seasons. He’s won five times here in just 13 starts and finished second twice. Busch swept the season here in 2009 in Cup and won the last two races, August 2010 and March 2011. He has the best average finish among active drivers at a low 8.7.

Range: (odds between 10/1 – 20/1)

– Kurt Busch (14/1): Busch the elder also has a very good record at BMS, including winning four out of five between 2002-2004. Kurt carries four straight top-10 Bristol finishes into Sunday’s race, with his best recent run here a third in March 2010; he finished seventh here in the spring. Busch describes the key to winning at Bristol in one word: “Surviving.” [ad-8757089]

Long Shot: (odds of greater than 20/1)

– Dale Earnhardt Jr. (22/1): Earnhardt Jr. has one Cup win here (2004), but has the third-best average finish overall among active drivers, behind Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle. In 23 Bristol starts, Junior has 12 top-10 finishes with an average finish of 11.5. He finished 11th here in March from a 22nd-place starting spot.

Summary: With just three races to go before the onset of NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship, look for a dramatic race at Bristol Saturday night and the possibility of some surprising results.
