The Chicago White Sox enter their road matchup with the Boston Red Sox reeling. They lost three straight to the Blue Jays over the weekend and exhausted their pitching staff in the process, battling through 14 innings on Saturday and giving up 13 runs on Sunday.
They can only cross their fingers and hope Gavin Floyd fares better on Tuesday than John Danks did on Sunday. Bizarre relief loss (on Saturday) aside, Floyd has been heating up, and he’s one of the American League’s best pitchers when he’s on one of his hot streaks. Floyd has allowed one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts.
An extreme flyball pitcher, Floyd has allowed six homers in 35 career innings against the Red Sox, but he’s 4-0 against them in his career.
Boston Red Sox (30-23 through May 29)
Alfredo Aceves (2-0, 2.22)
The Major League Baseball season is long for a reason. Talent wins out in the end. That’s what’s happening with Boston’s considerable talent, which had to wake up at some point. No one has exploded more than Carl Crawford has of late; he’s batting .423 with three homers and nine runs scored over the last week. No surprise there.
Amid their slew of injuries, the BoSox turned to reliever Alfredo Aceves for spot-start duty. So far, he’s answered the bell, allowing just two runs over 11 innings in his two starts.

I think he’ll lead the Red Sox past their White-socked brethren on Tuesday.
