World Series: Detroit Tigers vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Game 1 Preview & Free Pick

Game 1 – Detroit vs San Francisco Betting / Handicapping

They took two completely different paths, but both the Tigers and the Giants are in the World Series in 2012. Detroit looked out of it at times during the season, but they came on at the right time and they are red hot right now.

San Francisco looked like there were out of the series against both the Reds and Cardinals, only to make a huge comeback and win.

Game One gets underway Wednesday night.

Detroit

Justin Verlander will start Game One for the Detroit Tigers. Verlander has established himself as the best pitcher in baseball over the last couple years, so there is no better person to have on the mound in this spot.

Verlander has allowed only two runs in three postseason starts so far this year.

One of the big pluses for the Tigers is that by ending their series with the Yankees so quickly, they will get to set their rotation as they please for this series.

Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder are terrific anchors for the Tigers lineup. Cabrera won the Triple Crown this year, something that hasn’t been done in decades.

Fielder put together an extremely successful season, and he made it tough for anyone to pitch around Cabrera.

Austin Jackson is one of the best leadoff men in baseball, and he is a real catalyst for this offense. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

San Francisco

The Giants were crushed at home by the Reds at the start of the playoffs, but they bounced back with three straight wins in Cincinnati. San Francisco then won the final three games of their series against St. Louis when facing elimination.

This Giants team has to come into this series with a ton of confidence.

Matt Cain pitched in the deciding Game Seven of the NLCS, so it will be Barry Zito on the hill for this one. Zito has had a solid bounce back year in 2012, but there will be a lot of pressure on him in this game.

Buster Posey might be the NL MVP this year, and he has been terrific in the postseason as well.

Marco Scutaro was named the MVP of the NLCS thanks to his timely hitting and terrific leadership. He has quickly become a real leader for this Giants team. One thing we shouldn’t overlook is the Giants strong defense.

Brandon Crawford, Angel Pagan, and others have made several terrific defensive plays already in the postseason.

I think the total is set too low here. Zito hasn’t been dominating for several years, and the Giants offense has been good of late.
