2012 CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia Preview & Pick

PGA Betting – 2012 Asia Pacific Classic Predictions

Bo Van Pelt will be back to defend his title at the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia this weekend as one of the hotter golfers on the planet.

2012 CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia
Location: Seri Kembangan, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia
Course: The MINES Resort & Golf Club
Date: Oct 25-28, 2012
Total Purse: US $ 6,100,000
Winner’s Share: US $ 1,300,000 (21% of total purse)

Defending Champion: Bo Van Pelt ($1,300,000)

A field of 48 will tee it up Thursday on what has been a relatively simple course for the pros in the first two years of this tournament’s existence – last year’s winning score was minus 23! There is not cut this week, there are easy moisture latent greens to be flirted with and some low scores to be had.

Let’s take a look at some of the names to watch this week.

The Favorites:

Tiger WOODS 3/1

Woods has been off the radar since the FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup but when last heard from he had three straight Top 10s. He has been good in 2012 and is unquestionable the marquee name at the tournament. Against a weaker field, Tiger could snag the $1.3 million prize.

Jason DUFNER 8/1

Gotta love Dufner! He finished second last week to Mr. Van Pelt and finished T10 in this event last year. He is seventh on the PGA TOUR in greens in regulation, eighth in par breakers and fourth in adjusted scoring and enters this week in typically terrific form.

Bo VAN PELT 9/1

Is the defending champion here and is coming off a win last week in Australia. He also finished off the FedEx Cup with two straight Top 10s. He is fourth on the PGA TOUR in the all-around and fifth in par breakers and is absolutely on fire heading into this week.

The Contenders:

Nick WATNEY 16/1

Will make his debut on this course and is coming off a T10 two weeks ago at the Shiners’. He is one of the four or five most talented golfers in the field – when he gets Hot Watney is nearly unstoppable.

Jeff OVERTON 20/1

Finished second in this event last year and actually set the course record with a second round 62. He has three top 15s in his last five starts on the PGA TOUR and is playing his best golf in some time at the moment.

Ben CRANE 25/1

Won this tournament back in 2010 and finished T20 last year. He has been battling injury but is still one to watch this weekend.

Scott PIERCY 33/1

Has had a solid 2012 campaign with 10 top 15 finishes. He played the Shrines’ a couple of weeks ago and finished T6. Piercy always seems to be in contention but can’t quite break through for some reason.

Brendon DE JONGE 33/1

Has been the hottest golfer in the Fall Series with two straight top 5s including a T4 at Seaside. He is eighth on TOUR in greens hit and 26th in par breakers and is an attractive 33/1 shot.

John SENDEN 33/1

Finished T7 here last year and followed that with an impressive 2012 in which he made 19 of 22 cuts and had five top 10s. He has been doing something right – he qualified for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola by finishing Top 30 in FedEx Cup points. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Ryan PALMER 40/1

Finished T7 here last year and recorded a Hole-In-One on the seventh hole. He ranks 25th on TOUR in greens in regulation and 16th in par breakers.

John HUH 40/1

TOUR rookie John Huh has been sensational this year – a T13 at the Shiners’ two weeks ago was followed by a solo 12th at the Shinhan Donghae Open in South Korea for his 12th top 20 worldwide this year. Huh is one of those sneaky names that could do some damage this week.

The Sleepers:

Thaworn WIRATCHANT 66/1

Not well known in North America but Wiratchant has three wins on the Asian Tour this year and three second place finishes. He is a start in Asia and should feel right at home in Malaysia.

Siddikur RAHMAN 100/1

Is another star on the Asian Tour having recorded five top fives on that tour this year. He ranks 10th on the circuit in greens hit, sixth in putting and 12th in scoring and he finished T11 in this event last year.

The Pick:

My pick this week is Jason Dufner at 8/1. He almost won in Australia last week and did some very good things in that tournament. Dufner is due and should get it done this week.

My sleeper is Thaworn Wiratchant at 66/1. He has been the most impressive player on the Asian Tour and has something to prove against some of North America`s best.
