The Super Bowl matchup is set, with Indianapolis and New Orleans getting two weeks to prepare for their championship showdown in Miami. Oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have already weighed in on their thoughts, installing the Colts as 4-point opening line favorites. That number has since moved to 5.5-points, with Indy getting about 64% of the action according to the BETTING TRENDS page.
Back in 2007 the Giants and Patriots squared off in one of the greatest games in Week 17 of all time. The Patriots walked out with a perfect regular season, but the Giants walked out with a blueprint on how to defeat one of the best teams the league had ever seen.
First, we saw the Colts and Bengals remaining on the New York Jets’ regular-season schedule and figured they were finished. Then, after the Colts and Bengals rested their starters, the Jets were handed a playoff berth. So we wrote them off against Cincinnati in the Wildcard game and the Jets proved us wrong. Surely, though, their Cinderella run would end in San Diego. Nope.
Super Bowl odds had the New York Jets as a longshot, but anyone who took the chance will be on the edge of their seats when the Jets head to Indianapolis for a meeting in the AFC championship game against the Colts, who had their unbeaten season ruined by the Jets.
After last week, it’s clear we have to take the Baltimore Ravens seriously despite their 9-7 regular season record. Then again, most savvy bettors saw their destruction of the Patriots coming – myself included. New England was a wounded animal. The Indianapolis Colts are an entirely different beast.
The Baltimore Ravens got revenge against a team they lost to earlier in the season in the Wild Card round. They won’t be doing the same in the divisional round as they make a trip to Indianapolis.
