That collective sigh of relief you’ve heard in recent days is coming from sports betting fans that have survived the summer and are now welcoming back one of their favorite sports to wager on: NCAA Football.

Week 1 of the 2010 College Football season got underway Thursday and there are some great season-openers on tap Saturday.

One of those games features two iconic sports schools going head-to-head when the Purdue Boilermakers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish clash at Notre Dame Stadium (3:30 pm ET, NBC).

NCAAF Lines at betED.com have the Fighting Irish listed as 11-point favorites and the over/under total at 55.

Notre Dame has dominated Purdue in recent matchups, going 4-1 in the past five meetings overall and 6-1 SU in the past seven at home. The teams last squared off last season, when Notre Dame won 24-21 but failed to cover as a 6-point road favorite.

At the same time Saturday, the Connecticut Huskies and the Michigan Wolverines will open their season slates when they meet at the 109,901-seat Michigan Stadium (3:30 pm ET, ABC).

The Wolverines are a 2.5-point favorite and the over/under total is 54 in College Football Odds.

Both will be looking to improve on their 2009 records. Connecticut was 8-5 SU and 10-2 ATS while Michigan was 5-7 SU and 4-7 ATS.

Saturday night, one of the only games featuring top 25-ranked teams takes place at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome when the No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels take on the No. 16 LSU Tigers (8 pm ET, ABC).

The Tar Heels last played against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Meineke Bowl on Dec. 26, with Pittsburgh prevailing 19-17 as a pick’em and the score staying under the total of 44.5.

The Tigers’ last action was against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Florida Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1. LSU lost 19-17 as a 2-point underdog, with the score under the total of 41.
