Fight Odds / Preview: Mosley vs. Margarito

BOXING: ‘SUGAR’ SHANE A SWEET DEAL?

Sportsbook.com members aren’t souring on the aging ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley as the 37-year-old prepares to take to the ring for Saturday night’s fight against WBA Welterweight Champion, the ‘Tijuana Tornado’ Antonio Margarito.

Even against the younger Margarito, bettors are willing to take a chance on Mosley at +300 odds.

“Members obviously see more value in Mosley for this fight,” said Sportsbook.com spokesman Dave Staley. “They like the puncher’s chance of cashing in big with the underdog.”

Only a measly 25% of the action for Saturday’s fight is backing the champion, despite his dominating victory over Miguel Cotto last July. That fight was widely viewed as the big-stage debut for Margarito, now 30 years of age.

Along with proving that he belongs among boxing’s elite, Margarito solidified his status as a headliner and now gets ready for his first title defense against a legend in the sport.

Margarito is listed at -400 odds for this fight and along with picking the winner we’ve got Final Result and Pick the Round props here at Sportsbook.com.

Place a bet on the ‘Pick the Round’ prop and if either fighter wins by KO or TKO in the 1st or 2nd Round, all losing wagers on the prop will be refunded, up to $100.00 thanks to our Quick Knockout – Big Payout promotion.

 Fight Odds / Preview

For Mosley, just getting another Main Event pay-per-view fight should be regarded as an accomplishment.

From 2002 to 2004, Mosley won just one of his six fights with a No Contests declared in a 2003 bout against Raul Marquez. His only victory, a 12-round unanimous decision over Oscar De La Hoyas, was sandwiched between back-to-back losses to Vernon Forrest and Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright.

Since the last fight against Wright, Mosley has won six matches, losing to Cotto by unanimous decision in November of 2007. In his last fight, Mosley dropped the hard-hitting Ricardo Mayorga with a 12th Round knockout.

On Saturday though, Mosley will be in tough against an opponent that has an iron chin and will bring plenty of punches with him to the ring. Margarito is no stranger to throwing punches and can average 100 per round without wearing down.

If the Tornado can continue to throw blows into the late rounds again on Saturday, he should be the better man but as a big favorite, bettors will likely still side with the long shot.

Fight fans looking for more action on Saturday night should also check out the odds for Affliction MMA’s second pay-per-view event.

Headlined by Andrei Arlovski and champion Fedor Emelianenko, the ‘Day of Reckoning’ event boasts a fight card full of big names and we’ve got all the odds on our Live Odds page.
