Is it the most anticipated golf moment in history? Less than six months ago, Tiger Woods was an untouchable icon, the most popular athlete in the world and seemingly a lock to crush Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 career major tournament wins.
A strange car crash and many mistresses later and Tiger is still the most well-known athlete in the world, but for a much different reason. When he tees it up at the 2010 Masters Golf Tournament for the first time since the sex scandal broke, all eyes will be on whether Tiger’s incredible on-course focus can withstand an unprecedented amount of attention and scrutiny.

It makes sense that Woods would pick the Masters to return because the officials at Augusta National can shield him as well as possible at a tournament. It’s very difficult to get tickets to the Masters and even harder to get a media credential. If Augusta officials don’t like what you are doing, whether you are fan or media, you will be removed. And the Masters is Tiger’s favorite tournament, a place where he burst onto the world stage in 1997 with a 12-storke win and where he has won four green jackets – only Jack Nicklaus, with six, has won more.
But has Augusta been Tiger-proofed? Woods, who is the Bodog golf betting favorite this week despite coming in without a warm-up event, hasn’t won the Masters since 2005. That four-year drought is already the longest in his career at this event. But it’s not like he hasn’t come close since ’05, with Tiger finishing in the Top 6 in every year since and as the runner-up twice.
But will Woods end that Augusta victory drought in 2010? Will he even make the cut after months not playing competitively? Will wife Elin be there to watch?
