NBA news: Michael Beasley busted for marijuana
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley was stopped last week in a Minnesota suburb for speeding and possession of marijuana.
On June 26, he was clocked at 84 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone.
After stopping him, the officer on duty detected a strong odor of marijuana.
Beasley drew a misdemeanor fine of $128.
He claimed the pot belonged to a friend.
Deron Williams to play in Turkey
The latest NBA player considering a trip overseas during the lockout: Deron Williams. The New Jersey Nets’ star point guard is expected to sign a deal with the Turkish team Besiktas with terms that would let him return to the NBA when the lockout ends. The 27-year-old averaged 20.1 points and 10.3 assists last season for the Jazz and Nets.
Lockout could cost TV networks $1 billion
Television networks are down on their knees begging for the players and owners to work out their differences and play basketball in 2011-12. According to AdWeek.com, the networks would lose roughly $1 billion in advertising revenue. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
That group includes ESPN/ABC Sports and TNT.
