NHL news: Roloson in, Bergenheim out for Game 6?

NHL News - Boston vs. Tampa Bay Roloson to start

It looks like 41-year-old goaltender Dwayne Roloson will get his shot at redemption with the Tampa Bay Lightning as they try to avoid elimination against the Boston Bruins in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final tonight. Coach Guy Boucher has named Roloson his starter tonight after pulling him in Games 2 and 4 and benching him in favor of Mike Smith for Game 5.

Tampa’s leading goal scorer in the playoffs, Sean Bergenheim, may not be so lucky. His undisclosed injury, suffered in Game 5, will be reassessed before tonight’s game.

NBA news: Mike Brown lands Laker coaching job? Staples Center sued over toddler’s death

It looks as though former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown will be named the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Reportedly, he’s on the verge of being named to the job. But was Kobe Bryant consulted? Reportedly, he was “surprised” by the news and said he wasn’t asked for input prior to the decision.

The Tang family has sued Staples Center after their son, Lucas, plummeted to his death during a Laker game last season. He fell from a luxury box and landed on the seats below. The suit claims that the venue did not properly warn fans about the design of the luxury boxes, which doesn’t offer much protection from falling.

MLB news: Jorge De La Rosa to have Tommy John surgery

Still waiting for ace Ubaldo Jimenez to turn his game around, the Colorado Rockies suffered another setback last night when Jorge De La Rosa tore a ligament in his pitching elbow. He left the third inning of his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. He requires Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of 2011.

De La Rosa had been a key contributor for the Rockies this season, going 5-2 with a 3.34 ERA.

NFL news: Hines Ward wins Dancing with the Stars; Peyton Manning has neck surgery

The NFL lockout has been productive for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward. On Tuesday night, he won the smash-hit ABC reality series Dancing With the Stars. He and his partner edged fellow finalists Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane. Ward became the second NFL player to win the award and the first since Emmitt Smith did it in the fall of 2006. Jerry Rice game second in winter 2006, Jason Taylor placed second in spring 2008 and Warren Sapp finished second in fall 2008.

Peyton Manning had his second neck surgery in just over a year this week. The Colts quarterback underwent a “minimally invasive” procedure to correct a disc-related problem. Last year, he went under the knife to relieve pain from a pinched nerve.
