The Dallas Mavericks are just one game away from clinching their second Conference title and a return trip to the NBA Finals, but they will first need to eliminate a young feisty Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.

Dirk Nowitski scored a game-high 40-points to help rally the Mavs from a 15-point deficit in the final five minutes of regulation as Dallas then eventually went on to shock Oklahoma City, 112-105 in the Western Conference Finals on Monday night.

Jason Kidd, who scored 17 points to go with seven assists, five rebounds and four steals, drained the go-ahead 3-pointer with 40 seconds left in overtime that sunk the Thunder, who now find themselves in the deepest hole they have been on all postseason. It was OKC’s first consecutive loss of the playoffs and first back-to-back home losses in six months.

To make an already stinging loss even more agonizing—the Mavs didn’t lead the entire game, until Nowitzki hit two free throws 16 seconds into overtime.

And where was Kevin Durant, the league’s scoring champion the past two seasons?

Durant finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds, but after missing a 3-point attempt on Oklahoma City’s opening possession of overtime, he didn’t get another shot, which he missed from mid range in the waning seconds, with his team down by five.

The Thunder’s Serge Ibaka had 18 points and 10 boards while Russell Westbrook rebounded from two prior less-than-stellar performances, adding 19 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

But it was too little, too late.

Now Oklahoma City will have to do what only two teams in NBA history have done. Come back from a 3-1 deficit without the benefit of home-court advantage in Game 7.

That’s a tall order when you’re facing a Dallas squad that won twice in the regular season, and now two times in the postseason at the Oklahoma City Arena, where the Thunder were 30-11.

Recent Trends:
OKC are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 Wed. games.
OKC are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 road games.
DAL are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Over is 8-2-1 in DAL last 11 Wed. games.
DAL are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall.
OKC are 7-1-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Dallas.
Over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in Dallas.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Dallas – The Mavs have won at least 50 games in 11 straight seasons with no titles and only one trip to the NBA finals to show for it. I expect the intensity of the home crowd and the drive to shake the monkey off their backs is enough to propel Dallas to a victory in Game 5.

Me? I always go for the Dallas! Its not to look down the other team, Thunder, I believed them, but its just my feelings and support for Mavericks is stronger than any other opposing team of theirs.
