The smart play is for Tiger to keep his cool and avoid letting his emotions take over early on. For that reason, I expect him to play conservatively on Thursday. A par on the first hole would make sense.

Again – I see Tiger playing it safe to get his feet (not his ball) wet. If Tiger loses strokes, it will be in the fine areas like his short game or putting. But I don’t see misfiring badly enough to find the water.

For all the talk of jitters, we have to remember that Tiger was already the most scrutinized golfer – perhaps even athlete – of all time before any scandal hit. I’m thus not convinced he’ll be shaking in his boots on the opening tee. I expect him to lace one right down the center of the fairway.

I see Tiger playing tight enough to avoid making many mistakes (bogeys) but also tight enough to post only a few red figures. A couple of birdies and the odd bogey should amount to around of 69 or 70 – safe enough to keep him in contention but not sparkling by any means.
