ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Predators make the trip having lost seven of their last eight games, including four in a row, while the Senators have been mired in a tailspin of their own, losing four of their last six.

The Senators got a boost from a deadline acquisition in their last game, as newly acquired winger Ales Hemsky notched a season-high three assists in the team’s 5-3 win over Winnipeg on Saturday. The team will need Hemsky to continue to play as a high level as they deal with the absence of winger Clarke MacArthur.

Monday could be an opportunity for Hemsky to continue to prove his worth to his new club, as he has four goals and three assists in his last six games against Nashville.

That’s good news for the team’s top center, Jason Spezza, as the team has been desperate to find quality linemates to play alongside him this year. Spezza has three goals and six assists in his last six meetings with Nashville.

As for the Predators, they’re coming off a game in which they failed to score, falling to the Blue Jackets by a score of 1-0. The team was outshot 36-28 in the game, but couldn’t take advantage of some strong goaltending.

The loss was the eighth shutout loss suffered by the team, tying them for most in the league. Leading goal scorer Craig Smith hasn’t found the back of the net in six straight games.

Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne is expected to get the nod against for Nashville, his fourth in a row.

After missing 51 games with a hip infection, Rinne has posted a 2.04 GAA and a .922 save percentage in his first three games back, though each of those starts has resulted in a Nashville loss.

Things could go south for the Finn against the Senators, against whom he is 1-3-0 with a 3.28 GAA in his career. The matchup has proven tough for the team as a whole, as neither Smith nor captain Shea Weber have scored a goal against the Senators in a combined 10 career games.

Neither side enters this matchup in great form, but it’s Nashville that’s in worse shape. A loss for the Predators would be their fifth in a row, matching a season-high.

The Senators have taken three in a row from the Predators, including a 2-1 shootout victory in Nashville, and know they need to win games like this one as they look to catch Detroit and Columbus for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Senators are 4-0 in their last four games against Central Division opponents.

The play: Ottawa -143
