ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Raptors have won nine of their last 11 games as they continue to ride high following the Rudy Gay trade.

The team’s success has helped them to climb into a position to host a playoff series in the first round of the playoffs, but they’re finally facing some real competition for that honor, and will need to stamp out some hard charging teams if they hope to stay in that position.

One of those teams is the Brooklyn Nets, which is above .500 on the back of winning five of six.

Toronto’s lead sits at four games over Brooklyn in the Atlantic Division standings, buoyed by a win over Minnesota on Sunday. Point guard Kyle Lowry recorded his second triple-double of the season in that one, a 111-104 Raptors win.

The team needed every one of Lowry’s 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists to get by the Timberwolves. The Raptors are a bit shorthanded at the moment with Patrick Patterson slated to miss between seven and 10 days.

Minnesota’s big-men were able to have a field day in his absence.

Power forward Kevin Love recorded 26 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists, while center Nikola Pekovic racked up 17 points and 11 rebounds. That may not pose as much of a problem against a Nets team with an aging Kevin Garnett and an absent Brook Lopez, but certainly poses a problem for the Raptors going forward, as Patterson has been a key cog in a Raptors second unit that has really jump started the team.

As for Brooklyn, they’ll look to match Toronto’s fourth-ranked scoring defense with a strong defense of its own, surrendering fewer than 100 points per game on the season. The team’s also been able to score of late to supplement that, eclipsing the century mark in scoring in seven of their last eight wins.

The Nets may be 6-0 ATS in their last six home games, but they’ll be facing a determined Raptors squad on Monday night. Toronto has also won each of the two meetings between these teams in 2014, including the most recent one in Brooklyn.

A closer look at the Raptors’ schedule shows that the team’s only two losses in their last 11 came by two points to a white-hot Bulls team, and then in overtime against Washington, so they’ve certainly been competitive in each of those games.

The Raptors are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against Atlantic Division opponents, and are 4-1-1 in their last six meetings with the Nets.

The play: Toronto +2
