New York has gone 3-1-0 during their current road trip while the Bruins had gone 8-1-1 in 10 games prior to their humbling loss to the Wings last time out.

The New York Rangers have been better as the season has rolled along but they have been unable to get any sort of run going – they are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games. The problem continues to be a lack of offense. The Rangers are averaging just 2.12 goals per game this year but they did score five last time out in a 5-2 win against Florida.

Mats Zuccarello has four points in his past three games and Rick Nash has two goals in four games after a 17-game absence caused by a concussion but that’s about it offensively for New York.

Ryan McDonagh has just two points in seven games, Carl Hagelin has two points in eight games, Ryan Callahan is pointless in three games, Marc Staal has been held off the score sheet in 7 and Benoit Pouliot hasn’t recorded a point in 12 games – ugh!

It’s a good thing for Henrik Lundqvist – but he himself has struggled at times this year. Lundqvist pulled after allowing four goals on 22 shots in a 5-0 loss to Tampa Bay Monday night and on the season is just 8-10-0 with a 2.48 GAA and .918 save percentage this season.

He followed up the rough game against the Lightning by making 31 saves versus the Panthers and is 21-8-2 with a 1.68 goals-against average and .942 save percentage in 31 career matchups against Boston.

The Boston Bruins are once again among the elite in the NHL – 2.72 goals for per game this year and just 2.00 goals against. Tuukka Rask had an uncharacteristically brutal outing last time out giving up six goals on 28 shots Wednesday against Detroit. Rask had allowed two or fewer goals in eight of his previous 10 starts.

You would have to expect that he will be motivated to avenge that loss Friday night.

Bruins forward Carl Soderberg has four points in his past four games and saw a three-game point streak halted Wednesday, as did defenseman Torey Krug, who has three points in his past four games. Loui Eriksson has snapped out of a slump and has recorded three points in two games, Reilly Smith has six points in two games and Torey Krug has three points in his last two games.

Absent from the “hot list” are the Bruins studs. Milan Lucic, David Krejci, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand haven’t been lighting the lamp but they have been playing solid hockey – no surprise that the deep Bruins are tops in the Eastern Conference.

Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:
• NYR are 7-1 in their last 8 road games.
• NYR are 2-8 in their last 10 Fri. games.
• Under is 4-1-3 in NYR last 8 overall.
• Under is 10-3-8 in BOS last 21 home games.
• BOS are 8-3 in their last 11 overall.
• BOS are 7-18 in their last 25 Fri. games.
• Under is 9-2-2 in the last 13 meetings in Boston.
• Under is 17-7-3 in the last 27 meetings.

The Boston Bruins will be eager to get back on the ice after an uncharacteristically horrible outing Wednesday. I actually feel a tad sorry for the Rangers in this one! Boston is just too good, too deep and too experienced to NOT get up for this game.

My bet is that they put it all together Friday and take the Rangers to school.

Pick: Boston Bruins -142
