The Tampa Bay Lightning had been scorching up until Saturday when they dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Rangers – one of just two losses on the season for the Lightning. Now they head out on the road to try and keep the early-season roll going. The offense has been lights out this year and the defense and goaltending has been holding its own allowing an average of 2.62 goals per game.

Offensively it has been the Steve Stamkos/Martin St. Louis show for the Lightning. Stamkos and St. Louis have 16 and 14 points, respectively so far this season. Stamkos has a point in every game so far and has six goals and five assists in a five-game goal-scoring streak while St. Louis has nine assists during a five-game point streak of his own, and he got four of them in a 5-1 win over the Flyers on Jan.
27, while Stamkos had a goal and an assist. Historically these two love to play the Flyers – they have absolutely owned Philadelphia.

Stamkos has 12 goals with six assists in 17 games against the Flyers, with four of those goals in the past three contests. St. Louis has 21 points in the past 11 matchups, and 33 in 20 career regular-season visits to Philadelphia – 10 coming in the past four.

The Flyers will be looking to avenge their 5-1 defeat in Tampa last week and may have solved what had ailed them when they went into Tampa. The Flyers snapped out of a four game losing streak with a 5-3 win over Carolina Saturday after scoring a total of four goals in their previous four games. One issue injuries. The Flyers will be missing Hartnell (foot) and Simmonds (concussion), along with defenseman Andrej Meszaros (shoulder). The other issue – the power play. They scored three times in their win Saturday with the man advantage but before that were 5 for 40 – yuk! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Through nine games, no Flyer is averaging a point per game – Matt Read leads the team with seven points (3 G, 4A). Claude Giroux has three goals and three assists and Danny Briere scored his first goal of the season on Saturday. Not much is going right for the Flyers but hopes are their win Saturday is a sign of things to come.

As bad as the Flyers have been offensively they have OK defensively – 2.89 goals per game allowed with Ilya Bryzglaov posting a 2.40 GAA and respectable .920 save percentage. That said when you allow 2.89 goals per game and score 2.33 you aren’t going to win a lot of games.

Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider

• Over is 21-5 in TB last 26 Tue. games.
• Over is 11-3 in TB last 14 road games.
• Over is 20-6-3 in TB last 29 vs. Atlantic.
• Over is 8-1-2 in PHI last 11 games following a win.
• PHI are 3-10 in their last 13 overall.

The Lightning are 7-1-1 in the last nine matchups, going 3-1-0 in Philadelphia while scoring 18 goals. Somehow the Lighting are underdogs in this game – I suggest you jump on it! The Flyers simply aren’t that good a team right now and the Lightning are sizzling. Stats, history and overall play make this decision look easy don’t they?

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning +106
