Finally, Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is upon us! The Boston Bruins travel to Vancouver on Wednesday night in the first step in ending a 39 year Stanley Cup drought while the Canucks will be looking to win their first Cup in their 40 year history.

So what can we expect from Game 1? Vancouver has had eight full days for rest and rust while the Bruins are just four days removed from a grueling seven game series against Tampa Bay.

Boston won the only meeting of the clubs this season 3-1 but that game took place with Alex Edler and Kevin Bieksa on the sidelines for Vancouver and with Sami Salo playing his first game of the season.

Both teams enter Wednesday night’s game playing very well offensively. Although they only managed one goal total in the clinching game against Tampa, Boston still boasts one of the hotter lines in the series – David Krejci (four points in two games), Nathan Horton (three points in two games) and Milan Lucic (three points in three games). Boston will also bring a deep lineup – three lines have proven that they are dangerous.

Vancouver has hot lines of its own heading into Game 1. Fresh off a five game series in which he recorded 12 points, Henrik Sedin has six points in his last two games, Daniel Sedin has four points in two games and Alex Burrows has three points in two. Like the Bruins, the Canucks have been effective at rolling all four lines and looking dangerous in the process.

Something tells me however that it will not be the offenses that steal the show in Game 1 – Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo are more likely to emerge the stars of the game. Thomas has been somewhat schizophrenic in the playoffs so far but did record a shutout in Game 7 against the Lightning. Both Thomas and Lou are 12-6 with a 2.29 goals against average in the post season. For either team to win on Wednesday, their goaltender is going to have to be their best player!

NHL Betting Trends:
BOS are 20-6 in their last 26 Wed. games.
Under is 19-6-4 in BOS last 29 vs. Northwest.
BOS are 12-4 in their last 16 overall.
Under is 15-5-1 in VAN last 21 home games.
VAN are 37-15 in their last 52 overall.
VAN are 82-36 in their last 118 home games.
BOS are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.

Betting Prediction: Boston was a good road team this season – 24-12-5 including a win in their only trip to Vancouver. They are 12-4 in their last 16 games overall and are 7-3 in their last 10 meetings with the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver was 27-9-5 at home this season and they are 37-15 in their last 52 games overall.

The Under is 15-5-1 in Vancouver’s last 16 home games.

Nerves will most definitely be a huge factor in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final – only two players that will be suiting up have ever played in the final. In that case, you’d have to think that this will be a low scoring affair. Vancouver should prevail – their Special Teams supremacy will likely be the difference right off the bat. Look for a Power Play goal to be the difference in a tight low scoring game.

Pick: Vancouver Canucks -200 and the Under – 5.5 goals

I think we’re going to get 2 flat teams on Wednesday. Too many days off. Now way they’ll have any momentum to carry over form the previous playoff series. This is going to be a low scoring grind it out game that’ll probably go to OT. Canucks win 2-1.

This wasn’t 2 flat teams that’s for sure. Great game. Canucks win 1-0 a goal with 19 seconds left by Raffi Torres gets it done for Van City
