The scorching Chicago Blackhawks await having won nine of their last 11 games. The Habs have had a difficult time scoring goals lately while the Hawks seem to be scoring at will. Will Montreal be able to avenge a 5-0 loss to these same Blackhawks on November 4 or will Chicago keep the roll going?

The Montreal Canadiens have hit the offensive skids as of late and have tumbled out of first place in the overall standings because of it. The Habs has lost four of their last five games – the latest coming Tuesday night in Minnesota in a game that they scored just once and registered just 19 shots.

The Habs have averaged just 1.88 per game in their last eight – nearly a goal below their season average. Tomas Plekanec has just one point in his last five games, Max Pacioretty has two points in six games, PA Parenteau is pointless in three games and Sergei Gonchar is pointless in nine games. Some help from David Desharnais would be nice as well – he has just one goal on the season and has been largely ineffective all season long.

The Montreal Canadiens can thank Carey Price for the team remaining respectable. He has posted a very impressive 1.66 GAA and .948 save percentage in his last five games but has just a 3-2 record over that span.

Bottom line is that the Canadiens are going to have to score some goals Friday night – the Blackhawks have been sensational in the offensive zone as of late. Chicago has averaged an astounding 4.7 goals for in their last eight games and have gone 6-1 in their last seven games overall – they have won their last three games by an identical 4-1 score.

Everybody has been hot offensively for Chicago – Patrick Kane has eight goals and seven assists over his last nine games after scoring twice Wednesday, Kris Versteeg has 14 points in his last eight contests, Brad Richards has three goals and two assists in his last three games and so on and so on and so on. To make things even scarier, there is a chance that Patrick Sharp return in this game for Chicago after missing a couple of weeks with a lower body injury.

Any concerns about backup goaltender Antti Raanta shouldering the load while Corey Crawford is on the shelf has been all-but-erased. Raanta made 40 saves Tuesday night against St. Louis and looked very, very good in the win.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Under is 7-1-2 in MON last 10 road games.
• Under is 4-1-3 in MON last 8 vs. Central.
• Under is 5-2-2 in MON last 9 overall.
• Under is 8-2-1 in CHI last 11 home games.
• CHI are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. Atlantic.
• CHI are 70-27 in their last 97 home games.
• Home team is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings.
• Under is 5-1-2 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks are on some kind of roll right now – they should have their way with the struggling Habs. There is no value in taking the Hawks on the Moneyline – I’m looking at the Spread.
