Boston will try to avoid a fifth straight loss against an Oilers team that returns home after a 2-3-1 road trip that saw them finally show some flashes of being a competitive team. The Bruins however have won the last 13 meetings while shutting out the Oilers five times and holding them to 20 goals.

The Boston Bruins let one slip away on Monday night in Calgary – they blew a three goal lead and surrendered the tying goal with 2.4 seconds to go, only to lose on the subsequent overtime. The Bruins seem to be finding new ways to lose after looking virtually untouchable during a 8-1-3 streak vaulted them back into the playoff picture.

The Bruins are averaging 2.59 goals per game this season – not all that bad but the team could use more from a struggling power play. They have scored the second least PP goals in the NHL (22) – second to only Buffalo. Reilly Smith has just one point in his last five games and Loui Eriksson is pointless in five – no Bruins are Hot in the offensive zone which could be a problem as we head into the stretch drive.

Tuukka Rask has also experienced a downturn in his game after a terrific stretch a couple of weeks ago. He has dropped his last four starts and is 0-1-1 in his last two starts with a 3.84 GAA and .843 save percentage in his last two. There are whispers that Malcolm Subban could make his NHL debut Wednesday night in relief of the struggling #1.

The Edmonton Oilers had some good moments on their recent trip despite being without Taylor Hall and Ben Scrivens. Word is that Scrivens could play his first game since February 9 – he has a 2.99 GAA and.895 save percentage this year. If Scrivens can’t play it will be up to Richard Bachman to backstop the Oilers – who? Exactly!

Edmonton’s offense has started to come alive just a bit. During their six game trip Jordan Eberle led the team with six points while Nail Yakupov, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Anton Lander scored three goals apiece. Andrew Ference and Jeff Petry each have three points in their last three games.
