Take a look at CappersPicks.com’s March 24th edition of the NHL Power Rankings to see which teams reigned supreme in the NHL in the past 7 days…

NHL Power Ratings – March 24

4 weeks to go until the end of the regular season and some of the cream is really rising to the top of this week’s Power Rankings.

Unfortunately, there is some cream that is sliding down the leg as well. Some overachievers are falling back to earth and some underachievers are finally playing up to their perceived potential.

Too bad that for some, it is much, much too late.

So here we go with this week’s NHL Power Rankings.

Agree? Disagree? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

1. Capitals – 48-14-10 (3 weeks ago: 1). The Capitals proved that they don’t need the best player in the world to be successful. They are 9 points up on the 2nd place overall team in the NHL.

2. Coyotes – 46-22-5 (3). 9 straight wins? And the 3rd best record in the NHL? Unreal!

3. Blackhawks – 45-19-7 (4). Only 4-4-2 in their last 10 games but still are the 2nd best team in the NHL. The loss of Brian Campbell could be huge but we’ll have to see.

4. Penguins – 42-24-6 (5). The Pens had a good week despite Malkin being banger up. Crosby has 31 points in his last 22 games and Fleury is back to form.

5. Canucks – 44-24-4 (2). 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and have if it wasn’t for a hiccup against the Isles, they might be #4

6. Predators – 42-26-5 (14). 6 straight wins has vaulted the Preds up to 7th overall in the NHL.

7. Sabres – 39-22-10 (9). Playing great and getting contributions from everyone on the roster. With Ryan Miller in goal, they should be Top 10 for the rest of the season.

8. Sharks – 43-19-10 (6). A reluctant #8. They have lost 5 straight but still have the 4th best record in the NHL and still have one of the best offenses in the land.

9. Devils – 42-25-4 (11). Just playing OK but Martin Brodeur appears to be shaking his slump. Ilya Kovalchuk is looking more at home too.

10. Canadiens – 36-29-7 (12). 7-2-1 stretch has the Habs finally looking like a contender. Mike Cammalleri and Marc-Andre Bergeron might return this week making them even better.

11. Kings – 41-24-5 (8). 5-4-1 over their last 10 games and falling back to earth a little bit.

12. Avalanche – 40-25-6 (7). Stumbling a little too but still a legitimate Western Conference playoff team. Good mix of youth and veteran leadership.

13. Red Wings – 35-23-13 (15). Two insane wins this week helps on their way to a 7-2-1 stretch. Healthy and looking more dangerous by the day.<

14. Flames – 36-27-9 (10). Out of the playoffs right now but are playing better as of late. Jarome Iginla is “the man” again

15. Flyers – 37-30-5 (13). Struggling with a 4-4-2 record over their last 10 games and are in danger of falling out of the top 15.  Brian Boucher in net? Ugly!!!

16. Bruins – 32-27-12 (19)
17. Ducks – 34-29-8 (22)
18. Blues- 34-29-9 (17)
19. Wild – 35-29-8 (18)
20. Thrashers – 32-29-11 (24)
21. Hurricanes – 30-34-8 (23)
22. Senators – 37-30-5 (16)
23. Rangers – 31-32-8 (20)
24. Stars – 31-27-14 (21).
25. Panthers – 29-31-11 (25)
26. Blue Jackets – 29-31-12 (28)
27. Maple Leafs – 26-34-12 (29)
28. Islanders – 29-33-10 (27)
29. Lightning – 28-32-12 (26)
30. Oilers – 23-42-7 (30)
