Week 16 Power Rankings

Week 16 Power Rankings
This Week Last Week Record Comment
2 Indianapolis 14–0 Like catnip, possible perfect season keeps Colts from resting Manning
1 New Orleans 13–1 Anyone start to feel a second wind? Me neither
5 Philadelphia 10–4 Peaking at the perfect time as they try to wrest playoff bye from Vikings
3 San Diego 11–3 Four straight division titles, but the rest of the AFC West always seems to be rebuilding
11 Dallas 9–5 Boys are 3rd in yards gained in NFL but only 12th in points scored
4 Minnesota 11–3 Will coach Favre also be making the defensive calls?
9 Arizona 9–5 Bettors beware. Cards mailed in games at end of last season
6 Green Bay 9–5 Nice late-season run, but Pack make too many mistakes to go deep in playoffs
7 Cincinnati 9–5 Bengals fans can calm down. Chiefs come to town on Sunday
10 New England 9–5 Brady is just not right, but Maroney and the running game are helping to compensate
14 New York Giants 8–6 Gave up an average of 34 points a game in their 6 losses
8 Denver 8–6 Just 1-6 in the last seven games
17 Baltimore 8–6 Best offensive team AND best defensive team in AFC North
16 Tennessee 7–7 Best AFC team that won’t make the playoffs
18 Pittsburgh 7–7 Wonder if Hines Ward is still questioning Roethlisberger’s toughness?
15 Jacksonville 7–7 .500 in a rebuilding year speaks to Del Rio’s coaching ability, but Jags could have made history if they held on against Indy
19 Atlanta 7–7 Falcons need impact players on defense to become a better road team in 2010
12 Miami 7–7 Sparano predicts a 9-7 finish. That probably won’t be enough for a playoff spot
13 New York Jets 7–7 Jets just haven’t taken care of business at home (3-4)
20 Houston 7–7 Schaub can throw for 500 yards a game, but Texans won’t play meaningful games until they can man up and win in the AFC South
25 Oakland 5–9 Wins over Denver, Philly and Pittsburgh? Strange season for a strange team
21 San Francisco 6–8 Niner fans will spend the winter and spring wondering why the team abandoned its running game
24 Carolina 6–8 So the answer at quarterback was carrying a clipboard and wearing a baseball cap for the first 3 months of the season?
23 Chicago 5–9 Bears and their fans have seen enough. Season can’t end too soon
26 Seattle 5–9 Back to the drawing board.
27 Buffalo 5–9 There are building blocks on defense, but the offense is a mess
22 Washington 4–10 Say good-bye to good guy coach Jim Zorn
29 Tampa Bay 2–12 Nice road win on the West Coast, but it probably won’t save Raheem Morris’s job
30 Cleveland 3–11 Exactly where has Jerome Harrison been hiding all season?
28 Kansas City 3–11 Dorsey is not the defensive anchor they thought he’d be
31 Detroit 2–12 Think Lions fans will be happy when this decade ends?
32 St. Louis 1–13 Ouch. Rams have lost 12 straight at home and 23 of their last 24 in St. Louis

My two preseason Super Bowl picks; Philadelphia and San Diego continue to rise up the charts with a bullet. Do not be surprised to see the Eagles land the #2 spot in the NFC to set up a possible rematch against New Orleans for the title.
