Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals Preview

In a big NFC West match up this Sunday in the desert between a couple of struggling teams the Arizona Cardinals (3-5) host the Seattle Seahawks (4-4). NFL lines have the Cardinals as 3-point favorites in this game with a total of 41.5.

Somebody’s gotta win the weak NFC West and it is conceivable that the winner of the division will finish at or below .500. The Seahawks are tied with the Rams for first place in the division at 4-4 while the Cardinals are only one game back at 3-5. The Seahawks have lost 2 in a row and were crushed in both games while the Cardinals have lost 2 straight including blowing a 14-point 4th quarter lead in their last game.

In their last games the Seahawks were embarrassed at home getting killed 41-7 to the New York Giants and the Cardinals lost to the Minnesota Vikings 27-24 in OT.

Seattle has had to deal with many injuries lately and that is one of the main reasons their defense has struggled. Well, maybe struggled is an understatement, as the Seahawks have given up over 1,000 yards in their last 2 games. However, they will get QB Matt Hasselbeck and DL Brandon Mebane back for this game.

Now is the time for the Cardinals to make a run, as 3 of their next 4 games are against teams in the NFC West and 4 of their next 5 games are at home where they are 2-1 this season. Arizona beat Seattle earlier this season in their house and they have won their last 4 games against the Seahawks at home.

This season Seattle is 4-4 ATS and the Cardinals are 3-5 ATS. All the head-to-head betting trends point to Arizona covering the spread in this game, as the favorite is 5-1 in the last 6 games between these 2 teams, the home team has covered the spread in 7 of the last 9 games, and Seattle has an ATS record of 0-4 in their last 4 games in Arizona. Football betting

The Cardinals have the leagues 30th ranked offense and this Sunday Derek Anderson will get the start under center. He did pass for 179 yards with a TD in the loss to Minnesota, but he was sacked 6 times and he played poorly late in the game and in OT. He may play well in this game, that is if the offensive line can protect him, since the Seattle passing D ranks 30th in the league and gave up 290 passing yards to the Giants last week.

Arizona has really struggled to run the ball this season and they had a grand total of 53 rushing yards last week. RB Beanie Wells missed practice all week and he and RB Tim Hightower have to pick up some yards to take some pressure off Anderson. For the first few games the Seattle run defense was solid, but then the injury bug hit them hard. They gave up 197 rushing yards last week in their blowout loss.

Even with Matt Hasselbeck coming back the Seattle offense has major issues ranking 29th in the league in both passing and rushing yards per game. The RB duo of Justin Forsett and Marshawn Lynch have struggled in their last couple games. However, just like the Seahawks the Cardinals have a weak defense both against the pass and the run.

With the stats that each team has on both offense and defense is a little surprising each team is still in the playoff race. I think Seattle is a better team even with their recent struggles in Arizona. However, the last few games have been with a guy named Kurt Warner under center and he is now Dancing with the Stars and out of the NFL. Look for Seattle to snap out of their slump and play well in this game and score an upset and win this away game.

Betting Trends

Seattle is 1-5 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning record and has an Over record of 4-1-1 in their last 6 games as an underdog.
Arizona is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite, and has an Over record of 6-1 in their last 7 games.

Pick: Seattle +3
